The book mentions MS patients (MS is very similar to the disease I have) having their illness reversed through grounding, but I am not at all sure that this is something that could be said to be a 'usual' effect of grounding and suspect the benefits for many or most of us may be more subtle. It would be easy to read the many testimonials in the book and to expect far too much and be disappointed. I was a little bit, I have to say. His experience was as a cable installer. He knew that to get a clear signal, you had to place a ground wire in the Earth so that the system and the Earth would exchange ions and reach a steady state. Ober also knew that as soon as the system reached a steady-state, the static would clear up. The theory is if humans ground in the same way that you ground a cable system, that we might be able to stabilize our electrical field and receive benefits. He knew that this principle had worked for him, and he conducted a roughly designed research study that also supported the principle. However, this was not enough to convince his early critics. Within the earthing community there is bound to be some pantheistic silliness. I sort of cringed when earth and earthing were consistently capitalized. I first heard about "Earthing" about a year ago when I read a very interesting article about the subject. I finally decided to buy the book and am delighted that I did. While some may say there isn't enough scientific evidence yet to conclude that being grounded to the Earth provides health benefits, the authors do share quite a bit of clinical data that supports their claims. To me it just makes intuitive sense that the Earth, with its wealth of negative ions that constantly stream from its surface, can be of healing benefit to human beings whose bodies constantly create positive ions (i.e., free radicals) as a result of the various chemical processes occurring within them 24/7. The real-life stories shared by people who have received healing benefits from being grounded are very interesting, and clearly suggest there is merit to this entire grounding concept.

The Earth is a massive reservoir of negatively charged free electrons. Without a connection to this reservoir, the cells in our body are unable to balance the positive charge which results from things like electron-deficient free radicals. The effect of excess positive charge in the blood can be seen very clearly by the way in which the cells are attracted to clump together (see below). Another example is provided by voltage-gated ion channels, which play critical biophysical roles in excitable cells such as neurons. The biggest problem with this sort of book is that there is hell to pay from the believers for saying the emperor has no clothes. And the funny thing is that people who would normally scoff at medical doctors suddenly defend this lunacy because the author has an M.D. at the end of his name. I don't get it. respiratory rate (RR) increased during grounding, an effect that lasted after ungrounding. RR variance increased immediately after grounding and then decreased; What if it was possible to make a few simple lifestyle changes and find relief from several chronic physical and mental conditions? We have reviewed three of the best earthing books so you can learn all about this natural way of healing. According to the book, being grounded means that you feel physically and emotionally stable, calm, relaxed, content, creative, intuitive, and focused. This is an excellent book to give you a deeper understanding of the practice of grounding. More importantly, what it feels like to be grounded. It is one thing to know what to do, and it is even better when you can learn to understand and become tuned into the effects that it is having on you. Of the earthing books on this list, this one gives you the most in-depth understanding of the practice. In Summary Persist he did. Eventually, Clint found open-minded experts in the fields of medicine, physiology, and biophysics and inspired a series of research projects showing that the surface of the Earth is like one gigantic anti-inflammatory, sleep booster, and energizer-all wrapped up in one.Any book can provide lots of testimonial claiming all sorts of health benefits (dubious and genuine) for just about anything, and this book is no different in that respect. There are a LOT of testimonials in this book and I must say I had little interest in most of them. What impressed me about this book was the story of how the grounding concept was discovered (which has an undeniable ring of truth to it), the solid logic of the concept and the studies done so far on grounding.

She suggests that even five minutes of walking barefoot on the ground can have a significant impact on your sense of well-being over time.The foot is a kind of ‘radar sonic base’ that serves to extract energy from the Earth, similar to a plant root extracting moisture from the ground for nourishment. Such ground to root vibrations may thus be an important energizing power helping to serve the body’s life forces.” Unfortunately, with our modern rubber or plastic soled shoes and insulated sleeping arrangements, we no longer have a natural electrical connection to the Earth, unless walking barefoot. The mats are okay to use and only mildly annoying on occasion, such as when I scrunch them up in my sleep, but most of the time I don't even notice they are there. The prices are pretty good for grounding products although I do have some concern about how you know when they need to be replaced in years to come. I also like grounding outside in the grass, but that is weather dependent here in the Scottish Highlands!

People cut off from the electrical current of the earth for long periods of time develop all sorts of problems which are reversed by grounding, and studies have show the positive effects it has on sleep and also on red blood cells. The red blood cell before and after photos in the book are amazing as are the thermography images. At least some of the studies done were double blind as well. I'm still too ill to go into all the science and theory here, and you really need to read the whole book to fully understand it all anyway, but this is a brief sample of what the book contains. Blowout: Corrupted Democracy, Rogue State Russia, and the Richest, Most Destructive Industry on Earth – Rachel Maddow (2020) In one experiment with nonmedicated subjects, grounding during a single night of sleep resulted in statistically significant changes in concentrations of minerals and electrolytes in the blood serum: iron, ionized calcium, inorganic phosphorus, sodium, potassium, and magnesium. Renal excretion of both calcium and phosphorus was reduced significantly. The observed reductions in blood and urinary calcium and phosphorus directly relate to osteoporosis. The results suggest that Earthing for a single night reduces primary indicators of osteoporosis.

In Such Good Company: Eleven Years of Laughter, Mayhem, and Fun in the Sandbox – Carol Burnett (2016) I've reviewed Earthing's products and this book for the podcast I co-host, Oh No, Ross and Carrie. You can listen to the four-part series starting here. We met and interviewed the author, Clint Ober, and he's a super nice guy. However, the basic claims of this philosophy and product simply don't compute. You can cite electron pathways all you want, but the electrical exchange with the Earth is minor, and its electrical import (and export) is dwarfed by other daily activities. You can line up charts comparing our disconnection from the ground (due to rubber-soled shoes and synthetic flooring materials) with the rise in diagnosed inflammatory conditions, but you'll be glossing over a multitude of relevant factors. You can cite endless testimonials, but they won't amount to scientific evidence. You can present thermographs with conflicting temperature scales (whoops), but you'll be taking advantage of people who aren't paying attention. You can keep insisting that inflammation is impossible for someone who is actively connected to the ground, but that won't alter the basic fact that, no, you can become inflamed while grounded. Not to mention that inflammation itself is only one piece of the larger puzzle of the complex, multifactorial diseases mentioned in this book. Throughout, Earthing offers breathless claims, insinuations and jargon-filled explanations in hopes that the reader will assume they belong together and support each other.
