My husband likes the dressing to be on the tangy side, so I use a bit more rice vinegar. But always feel free to adjust the ratio of ingredients to suit your taste! Sesame seeds - known as "iri goma" in Japanese, white toasted sesame seeds are a must-have for this recipe! We will toast them again, but for the best flavor, buy them already toasted. Sesame oil - not only adds a deeper sesame flavor but also helps thin out the dressing so that it becomes easier to pour.

If you plan on using the sesame dressing over a simple salad, here’s what I suggest serving it with: Mayonnaise – I recommend using Japanese mayonnaise (Kewpie Mayo) as it has a richer flavor. This is my homemade recipe if you can’t find the storebought one.

To make this sesame dressing, you’ll only need simple pantry ingredients that are common in Japanese kitchen: Sesame dressing has a pretty short history. It was first created by Kewpie Corp, the company behind the best-selling "Kewpie mayonnaise" and was distributed for business use in 1999. This is my attempt to recreate the popular Kewpie brand "Deep Roasted Sesame Dressing." My Japanese friend recommended it, and we got hooked after the first try, and I wanted to recreate it as it's not easy to find here in Vancouver.
