The appearance of Dell monitors rarely undergoes significant changes, and the P3222QE is no exception because its design is as close as possible to representatives of ultra-wide solutions from the top “U” line, which has not changed much in recent years. The idea of this monitor is that you plug the USB-C cable into your laptop and it handles everything – you get power to charge the laptop and the same cable handles video and other accessories. So when you get home you just plug in the single USB cable and the monitor starts up, connects to your external mouse and keyboard and other devices, and charges your laptop at the same time.Access to the service menu was not found. The monitor turned on with any familiar key combination (for this series of displays), but nothing new appeared on the screen. After calibration with relatively minor changes in the LUT of the video card, the gradients suffered noticeably. A fairly large number of sharp transitions appeared in the 10-50% region with obvious spurious hues (green, purple). Using FRC at its finest! Or maybe the matrix does work on the principle of 6 bits + HiFRC, due to which pseudo 10 bits become available – yes, such technologies are also available to manufacturers! The stand uses six rubber feet of various shapes, which do a pretty good job of holding the monitor in one position, mainly due to the heavyweight of the device.Unfortunately, we did not know what matrix was installed in the Dell P3222QE. All we know is that it’s a 4K IPS solution with a slightly increased color gamut and otherwise fairly standard brightness, contrast, viewing angles, and response times. That might be all you need (at least 125%), given the 140 PPI scaling in the system, but some very fast-paced consumers will be able to do without it at all. The image quality of the P3223QE is excellent – images had clear, bright color and sharp detail. I measured the peak brightness at 335 candela per meter square (cd/m2), which is bright enough for most uses, but not as bright as some. The color is clear and vivid, but this monitor is limited to the sRGB color gamut, so you don’t get support for the wider Adobe RGB or Rec.709 colors. That’s fine for general use, but it would be a problem for photo or video use, because it can’t show the same range of colors as a standard UHD TV. Edit video on this monitor and then show it on your TV and it will look quite different. Show a movie on it and you’ll get muted greens and blues that don’t look natural. I measured the P3222QE’s brightness, contrast ratio, and color accuracy using Portrait Displays' Calman 5color calibration software, a Klein K10-A colorimeter, and a Murideo Six-Gsignal generator.

The crystalline effect practically does not manifest itself, regardless of the viewing angle. The picture on the screen does not cause discomfort and is completely free from the Cross-Hatching effect (intersecting thin diagonal lines). The results of this table are the deviations of the points of the gray wedge along the X-axis. They do not affect the vertical axis, and therefore it is possible to assess the presence of spurious shades only by the CIE diagram from the “Gamma curves and gray balance” subsection. Take advantage of the Dell Display Manager software as it does add more functionalities for productivity to the Dell P3222QE USB-C Hub. It gives you access to a lot of things, from basics like choosing screen presets and adjusting brightness and contrast to smarter features like Easy Arrange, which tells the monitor to set snap to grids for a more organized desktop, and Input Manager, which lets you name your ports and set a few hotkeys for on-the-fly input switching. We have to say, though, that Input Manager would have been more appealing if it weren’t for that whole issue with the USB hub being tied to the USB-C port. The model belongs to the “frameless design”, so you will not see the protruding frame. However, as usual, the inner frame of the matrix itself has not gone away, and even in the new panel, they remain at an average level. The Dell P3222QE isn’t compatible with FreeSync and G-Sync, but that’s understandable since it’s a productivity monitor. it will still work great with games, but you need a powerful GPU or a newer console to get a stable framerate. Input lag sits at 10ms at 60Hz, so it won’t feel sluggish or delayed even while you play your favorite titles. Thoughts on the Dell P3222QEDell does not make any claims to coverage of DCI-P3—a color space designed for digital video—but we measured it at 90.8%, a good measure for a monitor not geared to that mode. We also measured it as covering 81.2% of Adobe RGB—good for a general-purpose monitor, although photographers working in that space will want to opt for a monitor with more complete coverage—such as the Lenovo ThinkVision P32u-10, which fills 99.7% of Adobe RGB, or a full-fledged professional monitor such as the NEC MultiSync PA311D-BK. It’s not the largest display we’ve seen in recent times, but you do have to remember that the Dell P3222QE is still a 32-inch monitor. Its width can interfere with bookshelf speakers if you have some so some rearrangement might be necessary. It doesn’t weigh a lot at slightly under 12 pounds, so those with glass desks shouldn’t worry if this is an upsized variant.
