The frequency with which his poor old bottom had been fucked about had finally taken its toll and it was no longer fit for the purpose for which it was originally intended. Both horrifying and hilarious, David's diaries are guaranteed to shock and entertain in equal measure. Even though the purchase didn’t go quite as planned the communication was great and dealt with in a very professional manner. Fascinating, disturbing, and eye-opening, this was a real mix of heart-breaking stories, facts, and anecdotes, and the author's dry sense of humour shone through.This inmate had used his bottom for many things, including the smuggling of illicit items, concealing contraband, and for sexual pleasure and debt clearing. One of the more poignant areas of the book is towards the end of the author's career he struggles with the changing ethos of prison as it becomes less about punishment and more about reforming.

Both horrifying and hilarious, David’s diaries are guaranteed to shock and entertain in equal measure. Actually the things he was complaining about happen in a lot of environments, not just prisons and there was no concession that maybe he should move with the times rather than see the past as the golden years. Prison books are one of my favourite non-fiction sub-genres and I absolutely can't get enough of them.

I used to be a Prisoner Custody Officer back in the day so I have dealt with the people he talks about, except I did it with very little back up in insecure environments. Newsflash a lot of prisoners are arseholes but if you treat people like animals they will behave like animals.

As a previous serving prison officer who left the service in 1999 I was amazed to read how much the balance of power has changed from the staff to the inmates I retired as a governor and I always made it my priority to support the staff as best I could not as seems to be the case now .

I was hoping this book would give more of an insight as to a certain set of prisoners, I should have known better.
