Unfortunately, her “victory” is short-lived. Vader emerges from the rubble with only a new singe or two to show for Junda’s best efforts. He soon kills Junda like the Terminator he is. Gunplay didn’t factor into Cal’s previous adventure, but that changes for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. Because in addition to shooting enemies away from afar, Cal can combine weapons to hold a blaster in one hand and a lightsaber in the other. This is easily one of the biggest changes to combat when compared to its predecessor. Unsurprisingly, combat is a focal point. You carve through a constant stream of imperial troops, battle droids and alien fauna. Fights will punish inattentive players, requiring deft taps of the parry and dodge buttons to keep Cal alive. But as Cal is an experienced Jedi, his array of established force powers makes the difficulty curve less severe. It also means you can pull and push stormtroopers around for fun from the start, shoving them off ledges and yanking them on to the point of your lightsaber. Later you can use several new lightsaber styles, with mixed success: combining a lightsaber with a blaster is enjoyably flexible, but the crossguard stance (inspired by Kylo Ren’s lightsaber) is too unwieldy to be useful. The game is compromised and amateurish - it's actually a marvel how every element of the game can be flawed so thoroughly. Performance issues and bugs aside, the game is hopelessly devoid of direction. There are pieces **** game here, but they don't work together (and often undermine other elements). Five combat stances for variety, but it's only cosmetic and calls the enemy design into question. Giant world to explore, but it's uninteresting and unrewarding. A home base to expand and customize, but none of it makes a difference. New characters of all species to meet and learn about, but they don't have anything interesting to say. Beloved returning characters, but their roles in the plot are boring. Big bombastic moments, but audio, visual, and animation issues undermine any impact. The game is all surface and, even worse, isn't fun. I changed the difficulty to 'easy' and pushed through to the end to see if the story ever gets better. It didn't.

The first Star Wars Jedi game lets players unleash the full power of the force with a generous suite of powers that included Force Pull, Force Push and Leap. This is in addition to the ability to wield your lightsaber as a standard single saber or double-handed. Trailers and comments from Respawn Entertainment so far reveal gameplay mechanics in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor that are far more in-depth, by comparison. But fortunately, unlike a lot of other AAA sequels, Cal will start off not having to relearn the same powers. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be released on 28 April, 2023 for PC and all major console platforms. Crucially, though, for as wildly customisable as Cal is, Respawn never loses sight of the fact that this is very much the story of a predefined character still on a journey of growth, as opposed to merely a cipher for the player. And yes, while my Cal always looked pretty cool with his samurai-like robes and man bun hairdo to match, his journey to stop an old evil from rising again makes him more empathetic than ever before. Bolstered by what has easily become my favourite cast featured in any Star Wars media – yes, even you Star Wars Rebels – I feel confident in saying that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor weaves one of the best video game narratives based on the IP in an absolute age.Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will exclusively be released on current-gen consoles and PC. That means players will only be able to play Cal’s follow-up adventure on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. This marks a huge difference when compared to the last game, which initially launched on last-gen PlayStation and Xbox platforms before receiving a patch providing an improved resolution and framerate on current-gen systems seven months later. Choose whatever stance you feel you gel with the most, but also be aware of the strengths and weaknesses of each stance. We mentioned the dual-saber stance before as being a great stance for those who’d prefer to be aggressive and switch from offense to defense at a time, but you should know that if you choose that stance, you take more damage per hit. That might not seem like much, but it adds up. In Survivor, we see Vader invade Junda’s Jedi sanctuary and properly duel the Jedi Master this time around. To be more specific, players are actually able to control Junda during the duel and have a slightly more traditional boss fight with Vader.

Whilst we will do everything we can to meet the delivery times above, there may be factors outside of our control and we cannot guarantee delivery within this time frame. It’s difficult to say if the Survivor team took those specific words to heart, but the results are the same. In Survivor, Fett’s presence is immediately felt through the reactions of those around him. The relatively few words he has to say all serve a clear purpose and only enhance his already considerable aura. When Fett does act, we’re left with no doubt as to why everyone seems so intimidated by him. Even Cal doesn’t seem entirely sure he would survive the fight against Fett if it came down to that. If the newly released poster below is any indication, poor Cal has clearly been through a lot since we last saw him. Of course, with the sequel taking place ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, its story should line up with Obi-Wan Kenobi, meaning we could see some big crossovers and a greater exploration of that particular era. Such additions should make this follow-up Jedi adventure feel much more personal, by comparison. There’s a generous number of colourways included for both BD-1 and Cal too – though the exact amount is not known. Lightsaber customisation options also return with hilts, blade colours, switches and more all tweakable to a far larger degree. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor looks to be a far more customisable adventure than the first in almost every aspect – and not just because Cal can have a beard now. Infinite ponchos are a thing of the past. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor planets and locations On what should be a routine mission, they meet a stormtrooper determined to chart her own course with the help of Cal and the crew. In exchange for help starting a new life, the Imperial deserter brings word of a powerful, potentially invaluable tool for their fight against the Empire. And even better, she can help them get to it. The only catch —pursuing it will bring them into the path of one of the Empire's most dangerous servants, the Inquisitor known as the Fifth Brother.Much like they did with Vader, the Survivor team doesn’t really mess with success within it comes to their portrayal of the Boba Fett character. After hunting the best bounty hunters in the galaxy, you come face to face with Boba Fett and immediately understand why he is at the top of that hierarchy. Perhaps we can look forward to some answers about the Jedi we saw trapped in an amber-like substance in Fortress Inquisitorius? Cal is clearly no match for Vader at that point. Vader toys with him more than he fights him. However, Cere Junda does eventually pop up and actually manages to stand toe-to-toe with Vader long enough to allow Cal to escape an almost certain death.
