If you have learnt with the Rider Waite deck and are looking for something new, yet still keeps some semblance of the original meanings then you may enjoy this pack, though it will take some getting used to as the imagery is often very different even though the titles have been kept. I find them very revealing and so to have a tarot book that uses these myths as a story that works through the Major Arcana and the suits work very well for me. In The Mythic Tarot, the intersection of the two worlds is mutually rich and satisfying, and skillfully aligned with the familiar RWS imagery. This book really makes a lot of sense for those who have not acquainted themselves with Greek Mythology, and can serve as a primer / introduction into the topic. What I truly love about the Majors is that by the time you are done reading / learning about them, you will not just have a firm grasp of some of the key players of Greek Mythology, but also have a real deep understanding about the origins of most of the archetypes present in the Major Arcana of most standard Tarot decks.

When I first started using tarot, I found the Rider Waite deck did not resonate with me as easily as the Mythic deck. She leaves behind a stack of 8 cups behind her to symbolise the tasks she has already completed for the Goddess… with some trepidation. This modern offering has made some helpful modifications while still honoring the vision of the original. For each card, the accompanying book describes the myth that is illustrated on a card, an interpretation on an inner level, and a short divinatory interpretation.Finally, the suit of Pentacles tells the story of Daedalus, the skilled Athenian craftsman who built the labyrinth for King Minos of Crete but who struggled with the challenges of both success and failure in his life and career. The images are rich in psychological insight, providing wisdom and guidance for seekers of personal growth.
