Just as is the case with the highs and mids, the R1280DB has some pretty impressive lows. They are quite well-balanced, especially considering the fact that they are 4-inch woofers. Measuring 146 x 241 x 178mm per speaker, the Edifier R1280DB sit somewhere in size between a more typical PC speaker and a bookshelf Hi-Fi speaker. On the whole, the sound of Edifier R1280DB PC speaker is quite pleasing in all aspects. It is not a wholly balanced compromise sound quality, nor is it vulgar, without characteristics, but the sound sounds so comfortable.

For this reason, I preferred to dial down the bass and boost the treble just a little. This brings out dialogue and other higher-range detail without making the overall sound too loud. For day-to-day TV watching, an overly forward bass presence can be distracting. The drivers consist of one 4-inch (102mm) paper-cone woofer and one 13mm silk-dome tweeter. So, there are no particularly exotic and rigid materials used for either driver, but that’s as would be expected for the price of these speakers. One of the few slights leveled against this impressive monitor set is when you start to hit the upper ends of its volume, the speakers do start to have a fair amount of sound distortion that shows up. Classic MDF construction Considering this is something pretty unique to the R1280DB, it’s pretty clear that they are really trying to appease both the casual as well as the professional listener.
