Nutritionally, Barebells are on par with most protein bars you’ll find. Each bar contains around 200 calories and 20 grams of protein, which has become the industry standard.

Mint chocolate has really grown on me, and I no longer consider it toothpaste with a twist. A pretty standard protein bar flavour, Barebells’ mint offering doesn’t match the likes of Grenade, but it’s a pleasant bar for mint fanatics (but not if you’re expecting dark chocolate).

All the flavors look basically the same: a thin coating of milk chocolate and some sort of chunks on top (in this case, chocolate chunks.) Ofc, cashew/caramel bar isn’t HORRIBLE… trust me… I know horrible protein bars, but barebell was just such a let down. It definitely was very meh, and I was left with wanting more flavor. What sets Barebells apart is their candy bar-like texture. If you’re used to dense & chewy protein bars, Barebells will completely change the way you view protein bars.

Anyway, at time of writing, Barebells protein bars come in nine flavours, which you can skip to using the links below: Barebells made some rather large claims when this flavour was released, and similarities with a certain range of luxury Italian chocolates were more than implied (‘little crunchy Rocher-style Hazelnut pieces’). Does it live up to their hype? And then there’s the issue that if you promise dark chocolate, you should really deliver dark chocolate. I love dark chocolate – it’s rich is wonderful, and I don’t even mind the hint of bitterness. But this isn’t it. It’s too sweet and too faint a flavour. Plus, the chocolate coating is too thin for it to hold it’s own against the mint. Upon taking the first bite, you’re hit with a marvellous roasted peanut flavour, the hint of salt really working to give it a depth of flavour you wouldn’t expect from a protein bar. The peanut pieces on the top are lovely, slightly crunchy and well covered by the creamy chocolate coating. This review is in no way sponsored by Barebells or biased in any way. I’m about to rave about these protein bars, so I felt it necessary to preface this review by saying that.Barebells are a fairly new protein bar to the game, having been founded in 2016. However, that was in Sweden, and they didn’t make their way to the US for several years after that. Historically speaking, protein bars have been very dense and chewy. For bars that have tried to mimic the candy bar textures, I’ve found that the flavor is not quite there, or they end up tasting very artificial (like Fit Crunch Bars). It’s a classic protein bar flavour, and a go-to for many people. Barebells’ offering certainly looks good, coated in a thin layer of milk chocolate and sprinkled with cocoa soya crispies.
