I'm actually unsure of how to wash the device - you can't immerse it, and it's pretty big to hold over a sink. I've been wiping the outside down with paper towels (it's a good idea to put a cookie sheet under it, because oil/butter gets everywhere if you grease the grids. If you want a double waffle maker, there aren't many options especially in one with a smaller footprint. This one does have nice features.

Updating this review - about 2-3 years after I got this device, one of the elements quit working (one of the ones on the outside "flaps"). I can still use the waffle maker as long as I flip the waffle to the other side. When I go to heat up the waffle maker, it will start heating, then start beeping wildly. Turning it off and on again fixes whatever that issue is, and it continues to heat (except for the defective element) normally. I still continue to wipe it down with paper towels - never did find a better way to clean it. I just make sure it heats up for the full amount of time before using it. Continuing to rate it as a 3 star item. Suggestions for Cuisinart: Accessories would be nice!!! Like a case/cover to protect it when it's on the counter or put into a cabinet. But I would especially love to see an 8" round waffle freezer storage box -- maybe to hold 3 or 4 waffles? That would make my day (especially ecofriendly)!!!
