There were a few things that didn't really get explained. For example, why wouldn't Brennan encourage Violet to do research on wards? Violet was trained as a Scribe and would be an excellent person to assign for this task. I get he didn't think they would have enough time to figure it out and he thought they should focus on making more weapons, but no one assigned Violet a mission, so why have her do nothing instead of possibly finding a solution to win the war? His logic wasn't full-proof. Also, the end where Brennan fixes the wardstone. . . we spent the entire book trying to understand wards and then figure out how to mend them and somehow Brennan does this but we don't see how? It better be explained in the next book and not glossed over. Also, why did Xaden become venin? In the dream he has, the Sage said it would save Violet from dying while she was draining herself for the wardstone, but I don't see how thats true. If you have any ideas please let me know. And random but can someone please make a timeline of when Xaden would have been able to have a relationship with Cat? Because according to my math, he would have been, like, 14 years old! There are even more situations that needed an explanation but I don't have the energy to go through them all. He’s turning. PS: Violet during the torture scenes and and final battle when she saves Sawyer was impressive as hell! I respect her so much and strive to be just as badass.

Following the dramatic sheer cliff-face that was the ending of Fourth Wing, we were left on tenterhooks about what on earth could happen next. Iron Flame is one hell of a terrifying roller coaster ride. Violet knows the truth that’s been kept hidden for centuries, and now she has secrets to keep from friends and foes, gas lighting professors, sadistic leadership out for blood, oh and classes this year that are deadlier than last in a war college that never relents. I was over the moon to reunite with my favourite grumpy old dragon and possibly favourite character ever, Tairn, and a newly adolescent and incredibly snarky Andarna. The chemistry between Violet and Xaden is served at the perfect temperature - sizzling hot - although their relationship is far from smooth sailing. A rider can either have one powerful signet or two signets or go insane if their dragon previously bonds with a direct relative. In this case, Sgaeyl had bonded with Xaden’s grandfather. When Xaden manifests his second signet, he hides it on seeing Basgiath killing inntinnsic (mind readers). With rumours that Sgaeyl bonded with a distant uncle, he is able to hide his signets by claiming that he has one powerful signet – shadow wielding. Andarna’s den is not named in “Iron Flame,” correct? I’m not missing the name for the secret seventh den of iridescent dragons? TW: physical torture, imprisonment, brutal injuries, perilous situations, blood, dismemberment, burning, murder, death, grief, ow drama. It’s been quite some time since the world has seen a pop culture phenomenon like Twilightor Harry Potter, but author Rebecca Yarros’ latest novels are one of the many fantasy series attempting to give those modern classics a run for their money. Fourth Wing, released in May, centers around Violet Sorrengail, a young woman pushed to join a dragon-riding school by her mother—the commanding general at the fictional Basgiath War College—and her journey to find herself by venturing beyond her comfort zone. For all of Fourth Wing and most of Iron Flame, I hated her. And honestly, even after everything, I still don't like her very much. However, while I know she wasn't a great person or mom, I understand her choices. Again, I don't agree with them, but she really thought she was protecting her children. I wept when she died, not because I am sad she's dead, but for Brennan, Mira, and Violet. They now know that even if their mom was misguided, her intention was driven by the love of her children and now that she's gone, they'll mourn what was and what could have been. They each had such different responses and I felt them all. When the man stops keeping secrets. He’s not exactly an open book, nor is he as forthcoming as he’d like to think he is. He’s like, “I tell you the truth”— no he doesn’t! No, he’s like a male Celaena Sardothien, “I’ll tell you my my plan when it’s time.” No, he like’s to think he’s open, he’s not. He’s like, ask me anything — but not that! Book three, man! I love Andarna. I think it’s fun that she’s a teenager, too. And she eats everything because I have teenage boys and my editor is like, why is she eating everything, and I’m like, have you ever been with teenagers? She’s eating all the sheep, and I love that Brennan is like, how do I find enough sheep? There are logical questions when Violet brings the entire riot to Aretia and Brennan is like, how do I feed you? But everything regarding Andarna is coming. That is not an “Iron Flame” question, my dear. By birth, if it were still a kingdom and not a province. So technically, he would be the Duke. There’s an epigraph where they removed the right to go sit on the council and gave it to the Duke of Lewellen — and there’s so much that got taken out of edits. This book, had it not been edited down would have a lot more in it. So you’ll see in book three, how it is Aretia has been allowed to survive without being caught. Something got cut out in edits and I was like, oh, my gosh — OK, book three! Technically, he would be the Duke and he would be the person sitting in the seat of Tyrrendor. So it’s a question of Lewellen, who’s the current Duke, what he’s going to do with the existence of Aretia.
