Alanatomy’ rattles along at a pleasant and enjoyable pace, throwing a laugh in here and some gossip there, but even fans of celebrities will start to feel that the book is lightweight. In 2021, Allen Carr's Easyway assisted the World Health Organisation's year-long global campaign for World No Tobacco Day 2021. Carr touches upon what happened, but sticks to what he actually knows, rather than throwing out conjectures. His tasks at Barclaycard included finding out who was doing shits out in the corridor which I found so vomit inducing that my eyes started to water!

He shares his school days with a distinctive comic loathing, doesn’t try to hide the fact at all that he was lazy at university even by student standards and the following 9-5 jobs that almost (literally in some cases) drove him insane.

I really enjoyed the insights into Alan’s celebrity lifestyle and the behind the scenes information on celebrities we all know and love that have appeared on Alan’s chat show Chatty Man. He has “the voice of an elderly grandmother”, his teeth and glasses provide the regular punchlines you might expect, and even as a child, his busybody neighbour Ange suggests he might be, so to speak, “half rice, half chips”.

then this follow-up, Alanatomy, will take you further into the hilarious and bizarre world of the country's favourite chatty man. A balance must be made in any autobiography between irreverent fun and something meaty that actually makes you think. The problem is that the public “like to place their celebrities – ‘Oh, you’re like that’; ‘They’re like that’.
