Some people prefer heavy Citadel Base-like paints that can be sloughed on in only a few coats. Others prefer thin, glaze-like paints that need to be applied in 100 layers. Two Thin Coats paints straddle this gap, committing to neither the ultra-heavy nor the extremely-light makeups you may find in other paints. GW's new range matches with the old range are the matches claimed by GW. However, many of the paints do not match very closely at all and some mixing will be required to get close to the original colours. If you are trying to match old GW with new GW, you'd be better just getting Vallejo game color or coat d'arms for the closest match )

In our How to Paint Everything series, we take a look at how to paint well, everything, with different methods and approaches from different artists. In this article we’re looking at the Blood Angels, everyone’s favourite Renaissance goth space vampires. Since the return of Roboute Guilliman and his ascension to the role of Imperial Regent, they have lifted their self-imposed Edict of Restraint and once again begun crusading across the Imperium to bring swift death to the foes of mankind. They played a pivotal role in Guilliman’s battle against Magnus and the Thousand Sons on Luna, and in the defense of the Imperial palace. Such is their might that the Administratum has never recorded a single loss for the a battle that the Custodes have participated in. As far as the global hobby community is concerned, Duncan is a man with a nigh-untouchable legacy, whose efforts, whose creativity, and whose genius has inspired thousands. To say high standard are, therefore, expected would likely be an understatement. So, how do Duncan’s Two Thin Coats Paints (which were created in partnership with trans Atlantis Games and Duncan’s Painting Academy heavy Roger Yates) measure up? Duncan Rhodes Two Thin Coats Paints Review – Design Make up a mix 1:1 Baharroth:White and thin it right down to a glaze. I used Vallejo mediums for this, but Lahmian Medium would work just fine. You want it pretty transparent. Softly highlight the middle of the blade in a band across it. Below I’ve included a list of all the paints used to paint both of these Infiltrators. Of the 60 paints in the range, I managed to use a not-too-shabby 28 of them when painting one miniature. The “top-left” should remain Caliban Green: Final highlight the bottom-right of the jewel with an even smaller layer of Baharroth Blue mixed with White.

Fortunately, I have this recipe damn near memorized, as I have reproduced it over several thousands of points worth of tiny crusading weirdos. With the template set for the central figure, the only challenges here would be the bevvy of details on the model and his attendant weirdos. I had these fellas in subassemblies to make painting them easier, as there was no way to get to all the sundry parts of each model without doing so. There’s a bit of color mixing for the various fabrics here as I really wanted them to look smooth, but you do you.

The skin was then re-painted with Rakarth Flesh (ignore the crevices), try to focus on the forehead, eyelids, nose, ridges above and around the lips and cheekbones.
