The first Arabian leopards were captured in southern Oman and registered in the studbook in 1985. Captive breeding was initiated in 1995 at the Oman Mammal Breeding Centre and is operated at a regional level on the Arabian Peninsula. Females are smaller, growing to between 104cm (3ft 5in) and 117cm (3ft 10in) in body size with a 76cm (2ft 6in) to 87.6cm (2ft 10.5in) long tail, and weigh between 29 and 34kg (64 and 75lb). Sexually dimorphic, males are larger and heavier than females. [8]
