of the book was the dramatic FMC ( Rory) hanging out with her friends and shopping dresses for having sex with the MMC( Caius) in her dream (it's called soulscape but still pls✋️). They were separated for the entire 90% of the book except in soulscape and the most annoying part was them having no important talks but just sex🤦‍♀️. This is a dark fantasy, for sure, but where's the damn story? Congratulations. You have been given the longest sentence of any mystic in the history of the realms.” But when Aurora drops into his throne room, representing everything he despises, they begin a game of cat and mouse, and before long, their hatred turns into something else.

The enemies to lovers is done so well the transition feels authentic and entirely unavoidable as they surrender to their mutual attraction. There were too many side characters and a good few were irrelevant to the plot. I only really liked Sam and Lauren, but I was kind of confused by their relationship, I thought it was more serious but now Sam has a new love interest?

But as if you needed any other reasons to love him, he is also loyal, caring, protective of his realm and his people. The way his relationship with Rory develops and how he comes to care for her and becomes devoted to her is so sweet and romantic and I was immediately owned by them. As this did not happen, The Umbra did not return. However, the Mimic Umbra enemy could a reference to this.I'm giving this book 2 stars because 1) Sam and Lauren are awesome side characters and kept me semi-invested in this story. 2) When Caius and Rory finally started to communicate again, and she regained her memories, there were some sweet and romantic moments between them. This book delivered on emotional damage and I am on my knees wanting someone like Caius. Just ready to rip the fabric of the world apart and do whatever needs to be done to be with you. And even though it takes a while for Caius and Rory to reunite, Ms. JAH does not disappoint with the spice... I think there was more dream sex than real sex but it was still 🔥🔥🔥 The romance in this book was immaculate, the spice was a nice bonus because it wasn't too much, but it wasn't too little. The friendships and side characters really made you feel something, the prophecy and the murder mystery really kept you engaged in the story. Overall, it was amazing. The cliffhanger will have you salivating for the next book.

The last installment of the Vincula Realm duology is filled with mystery, romance, and twists to keep you guessing until the very end. This is book two in a duology and cannot be read as a standalone. Firstly, I have to say I love Caius so much in this book. He's so hot and at the same time so cute! He's charming and SO caring, he truly is boyfriend material - wait no, even better, he's husband material 😍 Feeling like an outsider looking in, she tries to acclimate to her new life, but she can’t shake the feeling that something, or someone, is missing.

Sam is my favourite side character. He’s this massive, blonde, intimidating Angel. He’s grumpy and a smartass at times, but he cares a lot about his friends, protects them, and fusses over them—It’s the sweetest thing ever. I just wanted to give him cuddles the whole time. Caius trying to sort out his feelings after making a huge mistake, and learning that light and love are always better than hate and darkness Undead • Mummy • Bones • Ghost • Buried • Reanimated • Witch • Slime • Goo • Reaper • Hallow Bones • Vampire • Bat • Hallow Guard • Lord Sinister

What makes you think I would not paint myself with yours?” For me, there wasn’t much distinction between characters in this book especially the friend groups. I honestly couldn’t tell who was who. They didn’t have distinctive personalities etc. Rory lost a lot of her spark and Caius was a tad cringey. The dialogue also felt a bit juvenile at times I would set this entire realm ablaze to keep you safe, and if you think I’m bluffing, you haven’t been paying attention.” The prison realm was almost better than the normal realm. The sense in that? Apart from not seeing the sun, everything was pretty amazing. The interactions between the two MCs were so cringey I had to stop reading to take a breath (they helped me remember why I like being single btw). I can’t with the insta lust. The only cute one was when Caius asked Rory to identify the bowl’s color. That’s it. With a haunting prophecy hanging over his head, Caius races against time to break the magic barrier trapping him in his own realm. With the help of unlikely allies, they discover a solution, giving Caius hope for the first time since Rory’s departure, but it comes at a steep priceour favourite side character, Sam, not being with the person we wanted him to be with because the author decided to throw in a random new character for him to fall for after three encounters. (no, thanks) However, there was this one side character - Sam, for whom I bared my entire annoyance from slamming this book down. Sam and Stassie deserved so much better🥺 and this is another entire story. Although, I loved seeing them, the author decided to show glimpses of her new story about these two rather than writing about the story in hand. At one point, Sam became the MC and nothing else. I wish the information given during the first 5 or so chapters had been shown in smaller pieces throughout the book as needed, as opposed to being written as an aside to the story;The Umbra King is fast paced, almost too fast at times, and left me wanting for detail on both the side characters and the world itself! (That being said this is a personal preference on writing styles for myself!) The book was supposed to have so much potential based on such a minimal ending in the first book. I hoped the entire story would actually unravel here, but NO! There was no story to discuss at all. I think the author had a world but not a story. This NA fantasy, murder-mystery/revenge/romance is full of playful banter, intrigue, and loveable characters, and will very likely appeal to fans of books like A Touch of Darkness, These Hollow Vows, and Serpent & Dove.
