With his original plan thus upset, ffolkes persuades the Prime Minister to have the ransom helicopter drop off a bomb on Esther in case his team fails to take out Kramer's gang in time. Then he approaches the ship from underwater, and despite some mishaps he manages to thwart the activation of the detonators, leaving Kramer for dead, and prevent the bomb drop on Esther. Kramer, mortally wounded, makes one last attempt to blow up Jennifer, but is stopped by ffolkes and dies. Following the successful conclusion of the mission, ffolkes is rewarded for his service with three kittens named after Esther, Ruth and Jennifer. When a bunch of terrorists led by Anthony Perkins (Psycho, Murder on the Orient Express) threaten to blow an oil rig (and everyone on board) to kingdom come, there's only one man who can stop them, a woman-hating, cat-loving eccentric called Rufus Excalibur ffolkes (with two small 'f's, if you please) – and woe betide anyone who gets in his way. Below we'll look at two newer, cheaper options, that don't have the high tec specs of the 600m and 1000m Gold Tuna's, but are great looking watches from the same company, sometimes referred to as the Baby Tuna. First off, this is not a great film and makes no pretension to be one. It is however quite enjoyable on its level, which is that of a fairly straightforward and formulaic thriller with some dashes of humour. Roger Moore gives a pleasing performance as the woman hating, arrogant and irascible Ffolkes, who is the complete antithesis of his version of Bond. Much of the gentle humour of the film arises from his constant put downs to all around him. Anthony Perkins is the head of the gang, and plays him with typical cold blooded menace. Also James Mason turns in a nice portrayal of an exasperated Admiral. Call me crazy, but I love this film. Its always been one of my guilty pleasures and its often a film I'll watch on a rainy do nothing sort of Sunday. Moore is allowed to actually act, granted with tongue firmly in cheek, and show that he could do more than just be James Bond. As the villain Anthony Perkins is wonderfully loopy as a man who thinks that he's gotten all of the bases covered. The plot and the action is of a solid B-movie style and it doesn't try to be anything more than be a 100 minute popcorn movie. Best of all is the humor which is knowing and right on target, as when ffolkes becomes flustered when trying to warm up what he thinks is a young man .Moore's character is wonderful. He has an uncharacteristic beard and follows a series of bizarre daily routines to the letter. His savage side, especially towards women (whom he seems to hate more than terrorists) provides some amusement.

Even though you might not have noticed the watch before, it is actually seen quite frequently during the long scene, because Bond wears it on the outside of his yellow diving suit. Unfortunately the watch doesn't get a good close-up shot in the movie. When Bond and Melina are captured by Aristotle Kristatos (Julian Glover) and his henchmen, the watch is probably discarded and never seen again.

What makes this film so interesting to watch and has helped it to find a cult status are the characters, dialogue and the comedy touches, The Prime Minister speaks to her cabinet, and finds that there is a retired military officer, Rufus Excalibur ffolkes (Roger Moore) who runs an organization which does hostage rescue and anti-terrorist intervention. It is decided that his team will go in and defeat the terrorists. Mr. Ffolkes is a fellow who despises women is only wanting companionship of those of the feline persuasion and is a singularly short tempered and quite arrogant individual. He also knows his business thoroughly as the head of a mercenary team for hire. Having never seen this film before I found it to be a highly entertaining action film. I certainly would recommend giving it a look.

Roger Moore plays a bearded, eccentric Scottish millionaire and renowned Mr Fix-It who the British government reluctantly deploys along with his specialist outfit to re-capture two oil rigs being held by mercenaries (principally Tony Perkins as the group's leader, and the coke-bottle bespectacled Michael Parks as the ubiquitous "computer geek" if you're familiar with the stereotype from these type of movies). Admiral Brinsden provides the stoic stiff upper lip of the proceedings defaulting to ffolkes instructions with little protest. The Prime Minister informs ffolkes that they have the money, and it might be simpler to pay them off. He adamantly refuses: "Madam Prime Minister, you cannot pay off these people. Otherwise every madman in a ... rowing boat will hold the British nation to ransom." He informs her that they are to send out a helicopter, as the terrorists have demanded, but instead of the ransom, it is to have a bomb large enough to destroy the ship the terrorists have seized. He will send a signal if they defeat them, but if his team can't stop the terrorists before the deadline, the bomb is to be dropped, even though about 20 innocent people will be killed, plus himself.

The plot is a little complicated, but not hard to follow. The characters are simplicity itself. There are the good people and then there are the bad people. Of course the real world isn't so structured but it's nice to relax once in a while and allow our heads a playful descent into the vulgate. Why not? Freud called it regression in the service of the ego. The plot of an action movie usually provides a good example, as this one does. The picture quality is simply excellent, I have no complaints. His character behaves similarly to James Bond, he drives a silver Aston Martin DB5, and his appearance is met by a take on the famous Bond theme) seemed to play off and cash in on the role, before he returned to Bond in 'For Your Eyes Only' Over the years, Seiko has released newer versions of the Gold Tuna watch, with 1000m depth, the 7C46 series (7008 or 7009 SBSS018), but these were and still are quite expensive. Throughout his career critics have placed Roger Moore in a catagory with such alleged actors as George Hamilton and Pamela Anderson. Individuals whose celebrity status has been maintain by good looks rather than talent.
