Ceramic grind stone has clearly indicated cutting grooves for either axes or knives. Just run the blade through the right groove and roll it a couple of times and your blade will restore its optimal bevel for cutting. This handy little forest companion has optimized sharpening angles for both Fiskars axes and knives and its easy to use mechanism makes it a breeze to work with. It's also small enough to carry along wherever you go. One of the best features of Fiskars axes is that you can basically store them anywhere. Shed, garage, the trunk of the car, and you won’t run into the same issues as a traditional axe. They can withstand temperature and humidity changes.

If you don’t have leather you can use denim, paper, or honestly even just drag it across a flat wood surface. It’s not a big deal, but there is a chance these metal bits can immediately cause damage or dulling again if they aren’t removed. You can lightly run the edge through the sharpener a single time (maybe it comes off). But the best way to clean the edge is through stropping. The sharpener seemed to work okay on the Estwing, but not on the other two. They have a different edge profile from a Fiskars axe. They could be tweaked to match the edge of the sharpener, but I don’t plan on using them with it (so I didn’t bother). And Even for the Estwing which worked it required a bit of a different technique. All axes will dull with use, and rolled edges can be quite common with flat ground edges (like on Fiskars).
