As soon as I slip the lid onto my head, I instantly feel snug and safe. It wraps around with familiarity, as someone who is used to the feel of a full-face helmet. Fox claims the Small/Medium is 460g, and considering its beefy build, this is surprisingly lightweight. It feels light to wear too, which you want for fast and technical riding. The helmet utilises MIPS's impact protection system, lined with an impressive structure offering traditional protection within its shell makeup. Fox uses a dual-density EPS foam called Varizorb™, which combines two densities of foam arranged to interlace one another for added strength.

There’s also a single large rear exhaust vent to help pull moist and hot air out of the helmet. Chin vents and crown vents aren’t great – but improved on the Evo It’s reassuringly well built, steady at speed, gives great vision and just lets me get on with what I should be concentrating on - riding. The Shoei has the ability to link up to eight riders, while the Schuberth is limited to four, but both have a very similar range of around 550m in real-world open roads, coming down to about 400m in town. It’s worth noting that the carbon-fibre model is listed as having a reduced bike to bike intercom range of 200-500m (usually it’s claimed as <1000m).

Word is that it uses a separate battery from the intercom too, so lots of camera use won’t drain the intercom battery. An upgraded front spoiler, a better rear wing to reduce lift, a plusher interior, improved venting and more sound deadening to reduce noise levels. At the time, the C3 Pro was widely lauded as the most quiet helmet on the market; and indeed it is still up there amongst the very quietest helmets money can buy. Of course, in this it is helped by the fact that it is a flip-front helmet. That’s a basic headset that allows for connection with up to 3 other riders and a 1 mile range (under perfect conditions). Finally, all Momentums come with a 5 year helmet warranty– which is great. What’s not so great and slightly bizarre is that part that Sena manufactures (the bluetooth headset) only has a 2 year warranty. Guess there’s more to break in a headset.
