They even added a story about a dying grandpa showing that there is nothing that can be done against it but he was still happy at the end by getting what he wanted in his life.My seven-year-old and I have read and really enjoyed all three of Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre's collaborations. This was my favorite by far, which is really saying something; my seven-year-old says he loves this as much as he loved Oliver and the Seawigs (the first of them), which is also really saying something, because, as he explained, "I love Oliver a LOT." This is a six week unit on the text ‘Pugs of the Frozen North.’ Great for pupil engagement and securing reading skills.

I wasn't sure what to expect, but it started right in with the adventure. Shen and Sika are great protagonists (and I coded Sika and her family as Inuit or some other northern indigenous people which is nice). This story is about a boy called Shen and a girl called Sika, who along with 66 pugs race to the top of the world. They can’t resist the chance to win and claim the prize of ‘your heart’s desire.’ Snow trolls, sea monsters and a tribe of hungry yetis stand in their way but will their 234 paw-powered sled help them be the first to get to the finish line? I can easily recommend any of these as read alouds, they’ve turned out to be so fun and engaging.
