Henri Matisse was born in 1869 in the North of France and is known as being one of the leading members of the Fauvist art movement of the early twentieth century. Although he enjoyed painting biblical and mythological scenes, he specialized in painting domestic interior scenes of the middle class lifestyle, often depicting the same scenes and individuals in multiple paintings.
