It might be quite unfair to compare the KPH30i to a headphone 3x the price, but hear me out. The HD58x, of course, would take build quality hands down. The frame is much more well built, and the design is tried and tested, and it’s built like a tank. Compared to the Porta Pro, the KPH30i hold their own sonically. Where they fall behind is in build quality, with the Porta Pro proving to be the much more robust of the two. Many will find the KPH30i headband to be more comfortable, and the plastic and silicon band avoids pulling out hairs when adjusting.

The cable is a dual entry design, exactly the same as what they do with the Porta Pros, and the ones from the Porta Pros seem to last. The strain relief spring at the 3.5mm end was also a nice touch to increase the durability of the connection. The KPH30i is not much of a looker, in fact, it could easily be lost in a computer parts bin. Once you touch it though, you would realize that these are quite different. The plastic that was used is quite a bit more durable than the generic ones, and I wouldn’t be surprised if these last me for a few years. I (and many others) have gone on at length about the superb 60ohm, 35mm driver found in the Porta Pro, Sporta Pro, KPH30i, and the KSC35. Koss uses a titanium-coated version in the UR40, KTXPro1, and KSC75. This extraordinary driver defines this legendary series of headphones and has been in constant production and daily use for almost four decades! Koss headphones with the 60ohm driver are important staples in the portable headphone industry. The diaphragm receives an extremely thin layer of titanium bonded to its surface. Titanium is a popular choice for driver manufacturers as it has the highest strength-to-weight ratio of any metal. Titanium sure does make the driver super shiny!Where there is still bass presence and a dash of treble sparkle where it is needed. Instrument separation is great since the frequencies don’t tend to bleed into each other. So details tend to become quite clear, and pleasurable.

Everything pertinent to build and design you could essentially glean from looking at a photo, though; what we’re really here to tell you is how great these headphones sound for such a tiny sum of money. The Koss Design and Engineering teams collaborated to create the perfect wireless configuration using Bluetooth 4.1 with aptX™ to ensure the Porta Pro® Wireless Bluetooth headphones maintained the classic Sound of Koss® profile listeners have been enjoying since 1984. While similarly voiced, the Porta Pro are the deeper and more bass-heavy option, with the KHP30i sounding a bit more balanced and even. This comes somewhat at the expense of fun, and I find the Porta Pro more exciting to listen to. The limited treble extension and smooth reproduction is surprisingly fairly similar sounding between the two, regardless of the differences in measurements. Where to Buy Midrange frequencies are the star of the KSC75 show and are reasonably balanced. Vocals stand out in the mix, and voices sound consistent and natural if a touch thinner and less warm than is my ideal. The detail is really quite good, and things sound clear and clean. Treble These are very light headphones, and you can just throw them into your bag, and you wouldn’t even notice the added weight that it has. Unfortunately, when they redesigned the adjustment mechanism, they also had to remove the folding mechanism of the headphone, so finding space to bring them along might be a bit of a challenge.The rubber strap at the top of the headband is also a nice touch as it properly distributes the little weight that the headphone has on my head, which means that I can wear these headphones for hours, without feeling their weight on my head.
