I can honestly say that I have never been so emotional, so heartbroken, or cried tears of overwhelming sadness during a spicy, smutty scene before in my life. Kolis is a decent villain and i actually feel sorry for him a little, but there is only a certain amount of screentime i can handle for the villain and this book had too much.

Ash and Sera can probably lay waste to whoever they want at this point, so Kolis couldn't possibly be any kind of threat to them. By that third chapter I was screaming with excitement because of how something tied back to the very first book, From Blood and Ash.

He seemed so genuine in his words and the emotion behind them, that I couldn’t help but believe him. I was really looking forward to this book, one of my most anticipated reads for 2023, and after reading it I couldn’t care less. That’s not to say I haven’t been enjoying the Blood and Ash Series – but I think I vibe with Nyktos and Sera more. Thrust among those who see her as a symbol of a monstrous kingdom, she barely knows who she is without the veil of the Maiden.However, I can admit that his backstory explains perfectly how he turned out to be this way, and that he wasn't always such a horrific person. The female leads in this author’s books seem to get stupider and less rational with each book in a series. Jennifer has won numerous awards, including the 2020 Goodreads Choice Award in Romance for her adult fantasy, From Blood and Ash. There is less time in Nyktos' company but the author still manages to squeeze him in and have some rather spicy steamy scenes especially towards the end.

Nyktos tries to save her, but ends up being beaten by Kolis and Sera and Nyktos then spend about 60% of the book being in a cage. I’m going to have to reread the fbaa series now that I know the truth and facts because I have so many thoughts of what could happen in the primal of blood and bones.

the last 30% were so much better once seranyktos have reunited and it was more emotional as well, but i really really really missed all the precious side characters from the other books 🥺 my beloved Reaver and Jadis and Nektas. the first few chapters were really action packed and i loved seeing Nyktos and Kolis trying to kill each other and fighting over Sera, but once Nyktos lost the fight and Sera was fully captured by Kolis the book started to drag so much. I also know we’re coming up on the end of the Blood and Ash series, and this one, and everything is happening so quickly. Jla saw everyone complaining about there not being enough understandable lore, world-building, and intricacies of this universe and said here damn I’m going to give you this book lol. Overall, this book is a 5-star read and I’m just waiting on the fourth book now because I know a lot has happened in this one, but since she had to add another book; I feel we need to be ready to what else she’s going to put us through to get to the end of this series.

I was nervous she’d wait to leave it on a cliffhanger with Sera just waking up, as was done in A Soul of Ash and Blood, but thankfully it continues a bit past that! I need to make him trust me > have a "deep" conversation with him that is an excuse for an info dump > he does something atrocious > repeat.when Cas did it, i thought it was hot, but when Nyktos did it i just felt meh about it, because it didn’t really feel original. It's dragging out the series far longer than it needs to be, and although I can see the relevance, I haven't connected with it the same way. If it really is just because they are heartmates and the removal of his Kardia doesn't even matter then what was the whole point? Secondly he seemed so much more soft than from the previous two books almost a weaker waterdowned version of himself.
