I can imagine that if they do more of these in the future, you could get a whole bunch of them and they would look awesome on display. It kinda reminds me of all the different versions of the Game Boy Color. This seriously would make for an amazing gift for anybody you know who’s into retro games and is a particularly good choice for anyone new to the handheld scene too.

Then you’ve got games like Volified on the Taito device and 1942 on the Capcom device which have a thinner vertical aspect ratio and considering the screen is already pretty small, these games make the screen look even smaller which isn’t exactly ideal.Webster, Andrew. HyperMegaTech is a new retro entertainment brand from Blaze Entertainment Ltd., the makers of Evercade. With HyperMegaTech, Blaze Entertainement are able to bring great licenses and properties together with retro and nostalgic products featuring modern sensibilities, and deliver them to a wide audience of fans and retailers. Each console comes in a different color scheme inspired by the logos of their respective studios. HyperMegaTech says they've both got simple, straightforward user interfaces, and that they both also come with an Easy Mode, as well as save states, so that you can get past some of their games' tougher levels. Arcade games could be pretty brutal, after all! As you would expect with an officially licensed product like this, the quality of the emulation on offer here is as close to perfection as you can get. For example on the Taito one, you’ve got Operation Wolf, a light gun game which is obviously supposed to be played with… well… a light gun.

L2 and R2 are on the outside though and I feel like I instinctively try to use the joint of my finger to press these while keeping the tips of my fingers on L1 and R1 to maintain a good grip on the device, but this just feels a bit awkward to me.

Levelled Up

This is an absolutely amazing way of introducing someone to retro gaming or retro emulation devices. Every element of it from the sleek design and the minimal UI has been crafted so well. Obviously, none of these games would be particularly demanding so it’s probably not pushing the hardware very much at all, but I’m still happy to see everything working smoothly and I’ve got no complaints in this area. The Display menu features scaling options and the ability to display subtle or strong scanlines to simulate a retro display. The overall design is obviously very reminiscent of the Nintendo Game Boy but with some welcome modern refinements. The smooth, rounded corners feel great in the palms of your hands and allow for comfortable playing sessions. Furthermore, the D-pad is very responsive and the face buttons are also excellent with a springy tactile feel that is absolutely perfect for button mashing.

Ideal for gamers aged 12 and above, this handheld console offers a high-quality 2.8" IPS TFT screen that delivers stunning visuals and enhances your gaming experience. Its rechargeable battery guarantees long-lasting entertainment, while the optional easy mode provides a helping hand by making all games easier. Ultimately, the handheld is a low-budget, vertical console that can be taken anywhere for classic arcade gaming at a moment’s notice. It’s not for multiplayer, there are no bonus features like Game of the Month, and it’s likely aimed at newcomers to the retro gaming world than seasoned Evercade fans. This is pretty incredible because it dramatically extends the amount of time you can spend playing with the device but it also has several other massive bonuses too. While we’re on the subject of audio, let’s dig into the speakers. They’re fine. Just fine. For the price, I wasn’t expecting something as vibrant as the ROG Ally, but they do the job. At higher volumes they’re insufferable, and they don’t have a particularly strong range – audio layers sound almost mushed together. But, again, this is a budget handheld we’re talking about. Compared with the RetroMini, these speakers are great for the price point. Controls.

Which version is better? That all comes down to what types of games you prefer. The Capcom version is more fighting-focused games, but the Tatio offering has more adventure-style titles. First off the screen is incredible, especially considering the price of the device. The 2.8 inch IPS display has incredible viewing angles and the colours of these games are extremely vibrant.
