Description

The white build up could be a couple of issues, if you have used the Osmo Polyx Oil Raw , this product has a small amount of white pigment to counteract the darkening you get with a clear oil. Against a darker wood the white will show through and you get that milky appearance. A. THIN application is very, very important. If too much is applied then the small amount of white pigment in this product can remain on the surface to give a patchy or milky appearance. The product needs to be worked into the wood so that very little remains on the surface. Also the darker the wood is (prior to application) the more likely the white residue is to remain. Whilst some people don't want the slight white look, others find it quite desirable Apply first coat thinly and evenly along the wood grain with an Osmo Floor Brush - use in conjunction with the Osmo Telescopic Handle for ease of application My first recommendation will be to take a look at the Manns Classic Pine Stain and the reason for this is versatility. This is a water based stain, it will soak into the woods surface and colour it, there is a wide range of colour options and you are able to intermix these colours to create new ones. You also have the benefit of sample sizes, so you are able to select a few and try some small test areas on your wood. And this will be vital as the wood type, age and condition will all impact on the colour result that will be achieved. If you do get into mixing the colours, then be sure to record ratios and measure exactly so that future larger mixes will be the same.

For extractive rich hardwoods (e.g. Wenge, Merbau, Jatoba etc.), we recommend using Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin. A trial application is recommended. Oils need to penetrate the surface of the wood, once the wood is saturated and will not accept any more, excess oil drys on the surface and this is what marks easily. It is not only the type of wood that can effect this, also the method of application. Rollers application, for example, will apply more per area than cloth application, and so may not be ideal for hardwoods. When applying Polyx®-Oil Tints 3040 White, also use Polyx®-Oil Tints 3040 White as the top coat to prevent yellowing. Resistant to wine, beer, cola, tea, fruit juice, milk and water (In accordance to DIN 68861-1A – no water spots) Osmo Polyx Oil is the original hard wax oil a combination of natural oils and waxes for use on almost any interior project. Hard Wax Oil is almost as hard as a varnish but easier to repair. All you need is a rag apply the oil over the affected areas without having to remove any previous finish.

We want a light-coloured look that is as close to the original pine as possible. We also want to keep the character of the reclaimed wood surface as intact as possible - it's been lightly wire-brushed by machine but still has plenty of colour variation, holes, knots and bumps. These make us happy. The alternative will be to take a look at some of the coloured oils that will colour and protect like the Polyx you have already used. Bear in mind that when oils soak into a wood they will naturally highlight the tones of the wood and so for Pine this can be oranges or pinks, and this can happen even if the oil is pigmented. So again those test areas are vital. I live in a Victorian seaside town with a lot of old houses. One of the services I offer as a professional decorator is the renovation of old floorboards. Now old floorboards were never meant to be on show when installed and they’re often very beaten up. I quite like that though as it just adds to the character. Filters

Multi-purpose cleaners such as washing up liquids and detergents can be highly detrimental to the finished surface. They have a point and Osmo does work well, however you do need to be careful not to apply too much product or work it too heavily onto your wood. If you do either of those things, there is a chance of lifting that veneer and ruining your door. That being said, it is safer than most other products on veneer and a lot of suppliers recommend it. A. In short, 'No'. Oiled and waxed finishes on floors are 'Micro-porous' which means that although the wood is protected, it can still breath as it is not completely sealed. Please Note: Osmo Polyx Oil, as with any other clear wood oil will enhance the grain and character of the wood by giving it a damp like appearance. To test how the wood will look once the oil has been applied, slightly dampen the wood using a clean sponge or cloth. Never saturate wooden surfaces with water. Once dampened, the wood must be allowed to fully dry before applying the oil. Remove coarse dirt with a broom or a vacuum cleaner. To clean, add Osmo Wash and Care 8016 concentrate to mop water and clean the surface with a damp mop. To refresh and clean intensively or for stubborn stains, use Osmo Liquid Wax Cleaner but ensuring you are applying a very thin coat.

I would see how you get on in the next week or so and if it does start to mark easily then perhaps a light sand to remove the excess, a wipe down with Methylated spirits and the result should be better.For a wider choice of colour tones, or if a more intense colour tone is desired see Osmo Wood Wax Finish. For dark and extractive-rich hardwoods (e.g. Wenge, Merbau, Jatoba etc.), we recommend using Osmo Wood Wax Finish Clear Extra Thin. A trial application is recommended.

There is a couple of downsides to choosing Osmo oil on an exterior over other products. The first, you need to give your timber extra coats of oil!! The more protection you can give external timber the better, so bare timber should get at least 3, maybe even 4 coats of Osmo oil. The second is your timber is going to need topping up with Osmo every year or 2 or it won’t last. One plus point is Osmo UV-Protection oil remains microporous, meaning you can apply additional coats further down the line without the need to sand. Yes, over-application of wood oil can be easily remedied by dampening a clean, lint free cloth in white spirit and wiping off the excess oil. Take care not to use too much white spirit and wipe in the direction of the wood grain. This will break down and remove the surplus oil from the surface of the wood. Cork tiles are best treated before fitting to avoid overlapping treatment of edges which would lead to prolonged drying times. A cork floor treated with Osmo Polyx-Oil will get a robust, elastic and wear-resistant surface which will harden further over 2-3 weeks. Due to the extreme absorption power of this highly elastic, natural, material we recommend the following procedure: Apply first coat very thinly with an Osmo Double Blade Scraper, or other suitable applicator for cork floors. For small projects, an Osmo Soft Tip Brush can be used For daily maintenance, cleaning with a dry duster, floor mop or vacuum cleaner will be sufficient.
