La plasmación de distintas realidades interconectadas es algo que por las herramientas propias del medio se puede dar mejor en el cómic que en la literatura. Y los autores, conscientes de ello, lo llevan a cotas muy altas. Para ello utilizan las mismas composiciones de página y de viñeta que llevan mostrando desde el principio y las combinan con los distintos escenarios dando momentos verdaderamente brillantes que ejemplifican esa unión de Tierras. The second thing that bothers me, I'm bored. When I know exactly what's happening and the characters don't, and when a significant portion of the plot regards the period between the characters noticing the fishy thing and then getting to the level of knowledge I am as a viewer, that's all boring time. I was totally blown away by the visuals of this first barn sequence with the father running after the woman who’d been shot. Some of the coolest & best art I’ve seen recently. Kind of a trippy story with a strong horror vibe, and I've got to admit, liked it more than I thought I would. Fish out of Temporal Water: Bishop Burke was flung forward 70 years after the Pentoculus sent him on a dimension-spanning chase for the Man Who Smiles in the Dark. His relationship between Gideon and Stan is similar to relationships between Plankton and Mr. Krabs in SpongeBob SquarePants. As Lemire's bifurcated narratives develop and revolve around each other, he uses tropes from different genres to control the pace of the story and subvert audiences' expectations. Gideon Falls begins as a brooding gothic horror story and eventually evolves into a fast-paced science fiction romp. But even as the pace and style of the narrative shift, Lemire maintains a consistent and clear voice that keeps the story feeling grounded even in its most outlandish moments.Overall, as the first Image Comics book i have read, this was awesome! Not much was revealed in this book but that is not going to stop me from reading the second issue. Great job to Lemire, Sorrentino and team. Cant wait to see where this story is heading.

Overall: The final panel of this issue is one of the most terrifying panels in the series so far. The next issue is coming, of course, and at this point with Gideon Falls, all you can do is hold on for the ride—and hope to walk away certain. 9.0/10 I know Lemire and Sorrentino work together a lot and you can tell they just get each other. This was easily the darkest and best I’ve seen Sorrentino, the art couldn’t have been more perfect. Another guy, clearly crazy, is going through the garbage around town, finding artifacts he thinks are linked to said Barn. His therapist thinks he needs to be hospitalized about this fantasy, this madness. Until the doc also thinks she sees that darned barn!

Warning: Due to the disconnected narrative structure, it gets very hard to talk about the series past the first volume without spoiling major plot points. Spoilers for the first four volumes (through issue 16) may be unmarked. Proceed with caution. There's a trope in horror that I'm all set on. By which I mean I've had enough and would like something else. I move to a town where people say there's a Ghost Barn and a bunch of weird shit has happened and people see the Ghost Barn mysteriously appear and disappear. Reasonably, I'm skeptical, so a series of events must occur before I can get on board and get to the place where I'm like, "What are we going to do about this goddamn Ghost Bard?" Lemire always seems to team up with some of the most creative & exciting artists of the comic book world. This series, Gideon Falls, is no exception with its beautiful and haunting visuals by Sorrentino. Some of the best visual design I’ve seen in recent years is found between the covers of this deluxe edition. It looks great in the large format, but would benefit more from an oversized edition for sure. El año pasado Astiberri comenzó a publicar en nuestro país Gideon Falls. Una de las historias más interesantes y prometedoras de Jeff Lemire. Y una obra que obtuvo un más que merecido Premio Eisner a la mejor serie nueva en 2019. Para la ocasión, el guionista canadiense se alió con un viejo conocido como es Andrea Sorrentino. El maravilloso dibujante que con el que hace unos años trabajó en la serie Green Arrow, posteriormente en El viejo Logan y este mismo año en Joker: sonrisa asesina. Uno de los artistas con una visión más personal dentro del noveno arte actual y cuyo estilo encaja como anillo al dedo en el tono de la colección.

Zhodnotím volume 1-4 hromadne, nakoľko som ich dala na jeden záťah. Gideon Falls považujem za asi najlepšie dielo od Lemire v mojich očiach. Mám rada tie jeho rodinné drámy, ale všetky sú na jedno kopyto a nebaví ma to isté stále čítať dokola. Namiesto toho toto ma naozaj baví. Bavia ma postavy, baví ma dej a kam sa to celé uberá, bavia ma všetky hororové prvky a scény, ktoré to ponúka. A čo mi naozaj lahodí, je kresba. To čo predvádza Sorrentino je totálne božské, niektoré stránky mi ešte od prvého čítania do detailu utkväli v pamäti. A niektoré tie panely sú totálna láska. Teším sa na koniec tejto série a som zvedavá, čo s tým toto duo spravilo. Stále platí 5/5 Some horror requires a certain amount of this. Like...Nightmare on Elm Street. Okay, that premise is pretty out there, so yes, if you were watching Nightmare on Elm Street, you'd probably be skeptical, too. But when we get to Nightmare on Elm Street 5, we need to skip the skepticism, if possible, or really shorten the fuse on it. Because that's the least interesting part of the story, to me. We, as viewers, know exactly what's going on. And we're just waiting for the main characters to take the leap, assume it's true, and see what happens. There's a desperation in the voice of the characters. Letterer Steve Wands captures this with some scratchy word balloons. They're not pure white. There are these little imperfections that provide a unique look and feel. The infected are a completely different story. They're confident and powerful yet slimy. The font has a smooth quality to it, like how a snake might sound if it could speak. One-Steve Limit: Averted: there are two Norton Sinclairs. Played straight again when one of them is revealed to be really named Danny Sutton. If you're in a movie, and if someone is pleading with you, swearing, and if that person is pretty normal most of the time, then I think it's worth your time to say, "Well, if you believe it this much, that's enough for me to give you a couple hours of my time."the panelling, layout, framing, etc. is the best thing about this series. other graphic novels try to do something inventive with their layout but mainly just do different sized rectangles. this one really goes all out almost constantly. On that note, the story structure is written really well especially on how the different casts of characters interact. At first glance I thought that the setting of Gideon Falls was kind of like most cities, a rural area and a more urban side. Plus I had a good time thinking up of a little game on trying to find where in the world Gideon Falls is on the world map. But then there comes the big twists and why news doesn't seem to travel as fast. A lot of things just fell into place; some things didn't get answered mind you, but I have a funny feeling they come up in Book 2. We are in Harrow County, Rachel Rising and Outcast territory with Jeff Lemire, Andrea Sorrentino and Dave Stewarts's entry into the comics horror world. And like those other series (and many more we could name), we have a fight going for the soul of the town, an epic battle between Heaven and Hell. The central feature that distinguishes this from the others is not actually the great art, because all of the above series are exemplary in that category, but Sorrentino's art is indeed great, amazingly inventive with paneling and layouts. The team here is trying to capture a sense of madness, and evil, and Sorrentino does that through some of the most amazing visuals you will see out there. Overall, Gideon Falls is the perfect testament to the combined talents of Lemire & Sorrentino's ongoing partnership. Be kind to yourself and bump this to the top of your to-read pile.

In the newer version, we basically start right in the action. Within 10 minutes it's full on zombie chaos, and again, we know all we need to know. The second volume flows smoothly on from there, with people getting involved with each other and with the case. Here, the matching up of the two worlds to tie everything together is still great fun. And that was as far as the reviewing gods allowed me to get, only a third of the way through this mind-boggling drama. Issue #6: A signpost in the final panel shows that the city Norton and Dr. Xu live in is also Gideon Falls.Father Fred is a troubled priest who has been assigned to a parish in the remote, rustic town of Gideon Falls, after the previous priest mysteriously disappeared. After he receives a vision of the priest, whose dead body is found soon after, Fred starts to investigate the mysteries of the town. Awesome book with lots to love! If you’re a fan of horror and/or you like a strange story you should definitely go for this! I highly recommend this one and can’t wait for the next volume! Shortly after his first encounter with Mabel, Gideon fell head over heels for her, and continually attempts to get Mabel to return the feeling through various schemes, but to no avail. Despite his crush, Gideon seeks revenge on Mabel and her family (whom he views as the only thing standing between a successful relationship). Mabel, on the other hand, finds Gideon to be creepy and unattractive, not to mention totally evil, and despises him and every attempt he makes to enact his vengeance.
