Biollante was perhaps the first Godzilla monster to go through a substantially-documented design process. In Shinichiro Kobayashi's original story for Godzilla vs. Biollante, Biollante was said to be the result of Dr. Shiranui (the earlier name for Genichiro Shiragami) mixing the cells of his dead daughter with those of a tropical plant. Biollante was only meant to have a single form and battle with Godzilla at the end of the movie, and was envisioned to have the face of a woman and poisonous petals that resembled butterfly wings. [11] Biollante's Flower Beast Form was originally going to look more like a lily, with a gigantic tendril extending out of its center. Godzilla 1954-1999 Super Complete Works. Biollante shares many similarities with SpaceGodzilla, suggesting that she is more likely responsible for SpaceGodzilla's creation than Mothra. These similarities include tusks on the sides of her mouth, membranes on the inside of her mouth, rows of sharp teeth inside of her mouth, a screeching roar, and the ability to break apart into energy spores after being mortally wounded.

That Hashtag Show wants to hear from you! Awkward choice for feet aside, this toy was probably one of my generation’s first exposure to the character. As such, I do have a bit of a soft spot for it. The detailing is pretty great given its size and age and the choice to do six tendrils is nice. Like other toys in this line, it is nothing to really write home about. This is a solid release from a solid toy line. If it wasn’t for the feet and scale issues, this could have been one of the best of the bunch. Hiroshi, Arata, and Shiori carried the regenerating Biollante away once Godzilla arrived to do battle with Mothra. Once they reached the sea, however, Destoroyah rose from the deep. Destoroyah split apart into its Juvenile forms and hunted down and killed the villagers one-by-one, managing to fatally wound Hiroshi, which caused Shiori to drop Biollante's core. Biollante soon took root in the ground and spread her vines around the area. Godzilla arrived and battled Destoroyah, with the help of the badly wounded Mothra. Destoroyah killed Mothra, but Biollante wrapped her vines around him, leaving him helpless while Godzilla blasted his head off with his spiral red heat beam. As Godzilla returned to the sea, a rose bloomed on Biollante's core and her vines began to spread throughout the desolate city. One lone rose bloomed in the streets of Tokyo, symbolizing the hope for the world to be reborn. The biggest issue I see people have with this figure is the legs and feet that Trendmasters gave her. I imagine giving her the uprooted “limbs” she had in her film would have been too much for such a toy. Still, to this day, I wish they would have did something else with the feet instead of giving her star-shaped feet with claws tipping the five toes that point in each direction.Biollante can also transform into a cloud of spores when she is severely wounded and move through the air; using this technique, she survived both her fights with Godzilla. In Biollante's rose form, her cellular division is abnormally affected by Godzilla's atomic ray, resulting negatively in heavy body damage. According to Dr. Shiragami, Biollante is completely immortal and cannot die, due to both her regenerative capacity and ability to break apart into energy spores when wounded.

In her final form, Biollante retains all previous abilities, though she does acquire an additional one, which is the ability to spit large quantities of radioactive corrosive sap from her large mouth (the radiation is clearly visible as orange energy spores within the sap stream). The comic is notable for being the first American Godzilla comic to feature Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah (as Mecha-King Ghidorah), or Mechagodzilla. The only American comic beforehand to include any other Toho kaiju beside Godzilla was Cinema Shares' 1976 promotional comic for Godzilla vs. Megalon.

King of the Monsters was the first main line of Trendmasters' classic Godzilla figures. They were released in 1994 in various retail stores. In the IDW Publishing comic book series Godzilla: Rulers of Earth, Biollante is a creation of the Devonians, an aquatic alien race attempting to conquer the Earth using their army of kaiju. In the novel GODZILLA: Monster Apocalypse, Biollante is hypothesized to be a related species to Godzilla, as both monsters are plant-based and possess similar regenerative abilities. ISBN 978-4-06-364953-6.At first, Biollante was a giant rose with a set of jaws inside her bud and her tendrils, as well as long vines; merely a heavily-mutated and exponentially large, semi-sentient rose. She also had a large, fleshy sac surrounded by her overlaying vines. What this object was has never been determined, but it is likely that it is either her brain or her heart. Biollante, like her other kaiju cohorts has been referenced and seen in external media outside of the Godzilla franchise. It's in my top 10 and is easily the best of the Heisei era. In fact, it and 84 are really the only Heisei movies worth a damn. Godzilla vs King Ghidorah isn't bad, but the four after that are a mixed bag of messes with vs Mothra and vs Spacegodzilla being some of the franchise's worst films. Biollante is the only opponent Godzilla fights in the Heisei series who is unable to fly in her standard form.
