I’ve seen cordless vacuum cleaners with more power in handheld mode, but the figures here suggest that this vacuum cleaner is good for most jobs.

Top-end Miele cordless vacuums have additional features such as the HEPA filter (Miele Triflex HX1 Pro, Triflex HX1 Cat and Dog, Triflez HX2), LED headlights (Miele Triflex HX1 Pro, Triflex HX1 Cat and Dog, Triflez HX2) and a spare lithium-ion battery (Triflex HX1 Pro, Triflex HX2 Pro). While it doesn't have quite as many extras, the Miele Triflex HX2 still comes with a generous number of tools. The main floorhead is an electro brush, but it also comes with an upholstery nozzle, crevice tool, a carpet brush bar and a separate nozzle holder for storing all accessories and tools.

Miele's new Triflex brushless motor is made in Germany and gives the Triflex HX2 a 60% increase in performance compared to the previous model. This new motor coupled with our Vortex technology, makes the Triflex HX2 Miele's most powerful vacuum cleaner EVER. I measured the raw power of the Miele Triflex HX2 Pro in AirWatts (AW) at the handle. On minimum power it was 40AW, jumping to a more powerful and usable 99AW on its mid Eco setting, and a maximum power of 145AW on its highest setting, which is similar to the Vax ONEPWR Edge upright vacuum cleaner. The power doesn't deplete when in use, but you will notice the battery indicator light blinking for a minute-or-so before it cuts out. This is useful because it gives you just enough time to run down the stairs to find that spare battery, which you will need when vacuuming a three-bed house from top to bottom.

Canister vacuums are extremely compact, with the motor and dust bag contained in a tiny unit. This has a hose and floor cleaning head attached to it. Lighter and easy to maneuver around your home, cylinder vacuums make it far easier to clean flights of stairs. Still, the smaller size has a downside - it requires you to be hunched over when compact size means you'll be bent over far more than using an upright vacuum.If you have hard floors, look for an upright vacuum with different floor modes, which see the brush roller switched off, so it doesn’t damage the flooring, or for models that come with an additional cleaning head featuring a softer brush roll designed for this purpose. However, our reviewer was disappointed there was only one power level, as she’d like to have been able to adjust the suction force, particularly on deep pile carpets, as you may find the vacuum hard to manoeuvre. It’s also a bulky appliance, which may cause storage issues for some. Miele claims that the TriflexHX2Pro offers up to 120 minutes of continuous power – achieved using both batteries. On the lower setting using just one battery, the HX2 Pro lasted just 27 minutes 14 seconds, whereas on the Max power setting runtime was only 11 minutes 23 seconds. Our preference was to switch between Eco and Max power settings in our household, which saw the battery last around 19 minutes. We found that the Hoover HL5 is loud, however, after we measured between 78dB - 82dB, from using the wand in portable mode to using the motorized floor head on the floor, using our decibel reader on our phones. It is also mighty heavy and the bin had a tendency to lift off when we tried to lug the upright vacuum up the stairs. This is Miele's most powerful vacuum cleaner. It boasts some fine-tuned spec over it's predecessor - Miele HX1 Cat&Dog - with a Digital Efficiency Motor, longer battery runtime and being an overall lighter piece of kit, so it gets our vote for the best premium upright vacuum.

In terms of tools and accessories, the Samsung Bespoke Jet comes with a dizzying array. The main floorhead supplied is an electro brush, but a wet floor brush is also included. According to Miele, the TriflexHX2 Prois 60% more powerful than its predecessor, the Triflex HX1 – a model that had already impressed for its power in our review. This improvement comes by way of the new Digital Efficiency Motor, which works in combination with Miele’s Vortex technology (mono-cyclone design) and Multi-Floor XXL Electrobrush to deliver exceptional cleaning power.The rotating beater (or brush bar) links with intelligent detection of floor type to reduce the rotational speed on hard floors. This, Miele says, saves energy and prolongs battery life; but we found that it also goes some way towards protecting soft wooden flooring. The feature also automatically determines the speed setting required, depending on the type of flooring. Dusting Brush: With an adjustable swivel point and synthetic brushes for extra-gentle cleaning of high-end flooring and furnishings. Protect against scratches and abrasions.Through testing, the Triflex HX2 Pro measured in between 54dB – 58dB for noise, as we slid through the power settings using the floorhead. This is noticeably quieter than the level recorded when using the accessories, which we measuredat between 5dB – 63dB. The expected noise level for a vacuum cleaner is around 70dB, so the Miele Triflex HX2 Pro is less likely to irritate, if noise is important to you.
