Lesley left home at 15 and headed to London where she worked her way through many jobs – from corsetry sales in Cooks of St. But honestly, it all just felt a little repetitive and that there was nothing exciting or intriguing happening.

The path is not easy but driven by the need to give her children a future, she starts to rebuild her life. It's been a long while since I've read a book by this author, despite reading so many of her early books and loving them. Granted it was only a two-up two-down in a scruffy road in Lewisham, and in bad repair, but Eve felt she could make it lovely.Every decision she makes is for the best life for her children and she have to admire her stern and tenacity in such terrible times. Eve Hathaway has no option but to leave her violent husband but as with all bullies Don Hathaway refuses to admit that he has a problem and can't let Eve and his children have the peaceful life they crave. I personally prefer her older books than the last 3-4 she’s published however would I continue to purchase or read any future books, of course I would… it’s Lesley Pearse! Don starts to make Eve’s life a nightmare and refuses to let her go quietly, using intimidating behaviour to frighten her. She knows she needs to get away from Don, for her children not to grow up in a home where domestic violence is common place.

I felt so sorry for Eve and her children but I loved how her character evolved as the story progressed and she started to get more confident in building a new life for herself. But still she harbours a secret that if it came out it would ruin her and certainly later her new found friends opinion of her. Gone were the chapters where I was growing a bit bored (I hate saying that but that was the way the book was making me feel) and bam here we have an unpredicted twist that really shook things up.The betrayal of the title is how Don treats Eve, however, she is so immersed in her one and only long term relationship she believes leaving him would be an act of betrayal of their wedding vows. I have read all of her books and I have always loved the way she portrays strong women within her books.

I am a huge Lesley Pearse fan and have read all of her books, I was excited to be asked to read and review Betrayal. But Don's abusive behaviour got worse with each day and when he started taking his anger out on her infront of the kids, and then on her kids, she knew that it was finally time to get them out. With no money, or family to run to, she bravely summons the courage to escape and is helped by a network of women who give her sanctuary.

With her father in the Royal Marines, Lesley and her older brother spent three years in grim orphanages before her father remarried - a veritable dragon of an ex army nurse - and Lesley and her older brother were brought home again, to be joined by two other children who were later adopted by her father and stepmother, and a continuing stream of foster children. I did find from this point on that given the dramatic first quarter of the book that things levelled out and it all became very nice and happy and things were going well and smooth sailing for Eve and the children. The story then follows Eve and her children over the years after breaking free but it looks as if the past is always lurking around the corner waiting for the truth to come out and justice to be done. Every year I find myself extremely fortunate to be gifted an early addition of the latest Lesley Pearse book to review. These are all the 4 things you need to know and you could pick this book up on page 250 and keep reading from there.

Eve is married to Don and they have two children however not everything is as it seems and after she divorced him Eve hopes she and her children can get their life back however things don’t exactly work out and Eve could be in serious trouble . There was no doubting though the lengths Eve would go to to protect her family and for that I admired her throughout. Since then, Lesley has become an internationally bestselling author, with over 10 million copies of her books sold worldwide.This book tackles many triggering themes (domestic abuse, grooming, child abuse, suicide) in a beautifully sympathetic way. Eve, when we first meet her, was timid and shy but through no fault of her own as Don’s actions made her feel worthless, powerless and useless.
