It’s also almost 9kg which is heavy for a cylinder vacuum cleaner so lifting it upstairs could be more difficult, if you’re fit and healthy you’ll be fine, however. Carrying the cleaner upstairs as you clean is a fair challenge, too. The main body weighs a chunky 6.7kg on its own, plus another 1.4kg for the hose, handle and EcoTec head. The weight is made somewhat easier to manage by the large handle at the front, which balances the cleaner well when lifted. Every 6 months is the rule of thumb but many models tell you when the filter is starting to get full and needs to be swapped out.

And that price is the price! Dysons are expensive, like really expensive, so if you can’t afford one or don’t want to spend that much on a vacuum then you’ll do great with the Miele. At full power the large rear wheels still allow the head to be pushed around on shorter pile carpet, although on deeper pile, the sheer suction power made it more difficult to move. To be fair, if you leave the CX1 on its carpet power setting (level 3) it offers a great compromise between power and manoeuvrability. None of the CX1 models are really great for stair cleaning, but the Cat & Dog nudges into the lead here thanks to the extra manoeuvrability of the Cat & Dog head.

The CX1’s low noise certainly doesn’t equate to low power, however. At full power this bagless cleaner has absolutely outstanding suction and an incredibly high air-flow rate. We were quite excited about trying out the Parquet Twister XL floor-head for that very reason – and the results were brilliant. It’s our new favourite floor-head for hard floors!

I really like the design of the Boost and that it’s light and manoeuvrable. In use, it has plenty of suction to get wooden floors and carpets clean. What I’m not a fan of is the clip that holds the three cleaning accessories as it’s situated right at the point where my hand grips the vacuum wand. Of course, you don’t have to attach the clip, but then you won’t have the attachments easily to hand. Miele Boost CX1: Also consider It’s worth mentioning the bin and filters too. The large flap at the bottom does make the bin very easy to empty without having to dig around, and neither of the two in-bin gauze filters seemed to require too much cleaning. We ran the Comfort Clean cycle frequently as a matter of course, and certainly didn’t notice any filter-based reduction in air-flow throughout testing as a result. With a modern 1200W motor under the hood, the CX1 Cat & Dog is extremely quiet. Maximum noise of the cleaner – including the Cat & Dog head running on its fastest setting – was just 72dB. In fact, the sound of the air rushing into the cyclone at over 100mph is a large part of that noise since the motor itself is very well suppressed.

Flooring – What type of flooring do you have? The models that we’ve listed above transition from hardwood floors to tiled floors or carpets with relative ease. You’ll want a vacuum with good suctions to get stubborn haris out of the carpet.

Where it doesn’t match the CX1 is there’s no HEPA filter, so this isn’t a good choice for anyone with allergies. If you don’t suffer you likely won’t notice the difference but if you tend to sneeze from dust you’ll want to go with the CX1 above.Unusually, the CX1’s cyclone is at right angles to the main bin, which we’ve found neatly stops balls of pet hair becoming caught around the gauze filter. Pop open the bin’s vast bomb-door like panel at the bottom and the contents all drop out with ease. These tools make the hard-floor abilities of the EcoTeq head a little redundant – although it, too, was no slouch on our floor tile test. Plus if you like gadgetry you can open up the app on your phone and actually see a live stream of where it’s cleaning. Not particularly useful but goddamn is it cool.

Interestingly, the CX1’s bin proved something of a star performer with pet hairs. Vacuumed up hairs were pushed to the bottom of the bin chamber, didn’t seem to get caught around the gauze filters, and always dropped out easily when the flap was opened. The brush arm is 25% more powerful than previous models and is now much more effective on low pile carpets, which combine with a 2 hour run time and it will easily get around your house. This is the latest and greatest of pretty much any robot vacuum cleaner, brand new technology allows for a more thorough cleaning of your house. Not having to get dirty digging out dust from the bin too often and not having to remove, wash, rinse and dry out foam filters were both real winning features for us. Yes, some maintenance of emptying the filter bin and cleaning the internal gauzes will be necessary, but much less frequently than typical foam filters.

Here, the CX1’s dramatic lines are finished in a bold crimson that complements the grey trim and large, 2-litre crystal clear bin at the vacuum’s rear. At the top of the bin assembly is a removable panel with gauze filter in the middle of the single cyclone stage.
