He has been lead presenter of Gardeners' World since 2003 and since 2011 the programme has come from his own garden, Longmeadow, in Herefordshire. With beautiful photography throughout, Gardening at Longmeadow is an essential book for gardening enthusiasts of all skill levels. In 2017 I visited many countries to see their gardens, all of which shared the same basic adherence to Koranic ideals.

Each month focuses on plants that are at their height that month whether they are ornamental or edible, tasks to do and what that month means to Monty and Longmeadow. Following the cycle of the seasons, Gardening at Longmeadow is a year-long diary of Monty's gardening wisdom: from the earliest snowdrops of January and the first splashes of colour in the Spring Garden, to the electric summer displays of the Jewel Garden and the autumn harvest in the orchard.At one end of the garden, a path curves round to the writing hut where the author can work on his books.

The result is a very personal account of failure, bewilderment and surprise, as well as endless pleasure and some success over the course of a gardening year. Longmeadow is a gardeners' garden, but this will be a book for gardening enthusiasts of all skill levels who have been inspired by what they've seen, and who would like to achieve something similar for themselves. I liked the added touches of a page where he talks about foraging and how the book finishes with Christmas and what are the best presents for gardeners. In my opinion, it isn’t a book to turn to for quick reference or if you’re looking for lists of tasks to do but then it wasn’t designed with this in mind and most gardeners have those books already anyway.

Great review, I so enjoyed the opportunity of watching Gardener’s World last Friday although I was actually rather disapointed at the content, seems that they were short of things to say – strange in spring. Then, as autumn begins to bite, the Jewel Garden is cut back, tender plants lifted and it hibernates until quite late in Spring to resume its season of blazing glory.
