Saying that, I was pleasantly surprised at the everyday sound quality for normal TV viewing in an average sized UK living room. While the contrast levels are a little less pronounced than they are with Dolby Vision content, you’re still getting the benefit of the OLED panel’s self-emitting pixels and the picture looks very clear and bright as a result. It’s also Carbon Trust certified for reduced carbon emissions, from production to disposal, and boxed with just enough packaging to get to you safely — a single recyclable cardboard box. Dolby Atmos processing is activated when Atmos soundtracks are detected, presenting them in a virtual 7. When comparing to last year’s C1 model, there is an obvious step up in image quality and video processing thanks to the a9 Gen5 AI processor which helps the C2 produce excellent just above black shadow detail retrieval and better mid range detail.

Since LG TV's do not include a DTS decoder, the C2 OLED doesn't fully support for IMAX enhanced content. Lines are straight and free from ringing or fizzing with excellent detail retrieval and very few sharpening issues.

You’ll get the best experience from a dedicated soundbar, or surround sound speakers, though, and the wealth of HDMI ports on the C2 OLED means hooking up a sound system should be a piece of cake. The C2 series brings a smaller 42-inch model, which joins its 48-, 55-, 65-, 75- and 83-inch siblings. The design has been refined and there’s a new Dolby Vision feature to wring out more performance from HDR content. We started off with a 4K Dolby Vision stream of Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings on Disney Plus. They’re available across each HDMI input, which is rare outside of LG and a few high-end Samsung TVs. The Magic remote carries over from 2021 and feels less fiddly to use, the cursor less prone to flying across the screen. This second scene is in fact lifted just a touch across the board, though we’re talking fine margins.Interestingly, with SDR content the C2 and G1 are much closer in terms of brightness, with the older G1 actually proving to be the brighter of the two across all picture presets, though by a very slim margin. Complexions across a range of HD and 4K content are expressively showcased, with lots of nuance and naturalism that makes for a healthy-looking image.

This adjusts the brightness of the image depending on the amount of ambient light, and unfortunately, turning it off isn’t intuitive. ISF Expert mode looks very similar to Cinema mode, but adjusts the brightness of the screen based on the time of day, just like the Cinema Home mode for Dolby Vision.There’s also support for G-Sync, FreeSync and regular VRR, plus an upgrade to the game bar, which you’ll enjoy if you ever connect your PC to your TV. The difference appears to be a heavier stand for the OLED65C26LD, plus that model only comes in 77-, 65- and 55-inch sizes. As we watched a particularly intense fight scene that saw the characters battle it out on the face of a skyscraper, every detail of Simu Lui’s jet-black hair was visible, and the dark clothes of his assailants never looked gray or dull.
