Camnostic tested multiple battery situations (including external batteries attached to a “dummy battery shaped like an L-e6) to chart real world expectations and even compared these results to third-party brands Neewer, Big Mike, Watson, and Powerextra. Many believe, incorrectly, that the LP-e6NH has more usable power than the LP-e6N that came before it, but this is not the case. In Camnostic’s real-world testing they found that using dozens of individual batteries over that period proved that the newer models don’t push more milliamp hours of power to the camera but they do keep their wattage up over a certain threshold through the use of about two-thirds of the battery’s charge, maximizing the ability of the battery to power the most resource-heavy modes of the camera. For example, the highest framerate while using the mechanical shutter — 12 frames per second — is particularly power-hungry. The second item on most screens is the ‘Shutter count’. This shows how many times the shutter has been fired for still images (movies are not counted) on this particular battery on this charge. When the battery is recharged the number is reset, so it cannot show you the total number of shots that the battery handled. The ‘Shutter count’ is useful as it shows you how many shots you are getting from a single charge of the battery. If this number starts dropping it is a sure sign that the battery condition is starting to deteriorate.

The requirements are very specific. I would guess you'll need something in and around 7.5v and capable of 3 amps (to match the battery). The Canon EOS R6 has a resolution of 3.69-million dots at 60fps, compared with the R5’s 5.76-million dots at 120fps. The R5’s higher resolution and faster frame rate should mean it delivers a more organic visual experience, closer to that of an optical viewfinder.It is similar to the reason that many modern cars can't sit nearly as long as older vehicles without depleting their battery beyond the starting point. Keyless entry systems, particularly the passive types, involve both the transponder in the vehicle and in the key fob to stay in a low power sampling mode looking for activity. So even without any content theft prevention system, most modern vehicles are never fully asleep. As you'd hope at this price, the Canon EOS R5 brings lots of smaller treats, too. The electronic viewfinder (EVF) is superb and practically indistinguishable from the optical ones found in DSLRs, at least to our eyes. And weather-proofing is right up there with the 5D series, if not quite as indestructible as the Canon EOS 1DX Mark III.

The final and possibly most important information is the recharge performance. This shows the battery’s condition and its ability to supply power. Here are some example trade-in values for popular models; assuming the camera is in excellent condition (grade 9): Along with their varying sensors and resolutions, video is the other big difference between these two cameras. The EOS R6 is hardly crippled in this respect, but there’s no Raw option; nor is there the ability to shoot 8K. I pulled off around 2800 images on a 70% battery before it died while covering a house fire at night. 120hz high speed display, and pretty high brightness. Mainly remembered to turn the camera off between shots unless there was a lot of action going on, and all were shot at 12 fps. The camera turns on by the time you pull it up to your eye, so I never had any issue with the camera not being ready if it had been turned off.As shown by the arrow, flip out the battery charger's prongs and insert the prongs into a power outlet. The 20.1MP resolution might seem a bit low for stills, but when combined with the 4K UHD video performance it’s a camera that should be able to comfortably put professional-looking multimedia content; after all, the EOS-1D X Mark III, Canon’s flagship DSLR, has an identical sensor. It also has potential advantages over the R5 in terms of workflow speed, low light performance and burst shooting stamina.

The blue columns represent the gross usable power in the battery, which Canon won by about 10-15%. The orange columns represent the percentage of the battery’s power that is applicable to the higher-wattage mode allowing for 12 frames per second before the waning wattage fails over to a lesser framerate mode.

Canon EOS R5 Specifications

TechRadar reported excellent battery life at 2300+ shots with a LP-E6NH and EVF (unclear if 60 hz or 120 hz). For the first time in Canon's history, they have incorporated a 5-Axis In-Body Image Stabiliser (IBIS) into the EOS-R5 camera body. It can work in tandem with Canon's optical stabilisers featured in the RF and EF lens series', offering an incredible 8-Stops of stabilisation (or 5-stops in non-OS lenses). This system provides pin-sharp, shake-free images and video footage. A New Battery If you’re a high-volume, high-speed filmmaker, you might find the EOS R5's heat constrictions a little onerous. But during our half-day documentary shoot, where we shot in a variety of formats, we didn't see any overheating warnings.
