Not sure what anyone else has been reading, but there was no suspense, no drama, and anyone should be able to work out who the perpetrator is by about half way through the book. The author really understands her characters and spends a lot of time in their heads. This allows us to understand their motivations, simple as they may be. This is the first novel I have read from Martina cole and I have been looking forward to getting round to her! .. The story itself was really good! I loved the plot, I loved that it was a detective Nov because they are my go to reads,. I loved that i had no idea who the serial killer was throughout. Which I why I gave it 4 stars!! What's to say really. Cole takes on the most sensitive subjects. She tells it as it is. She holds no punches. But still tells them with so much sensitivity.

This was a hard book to read but I didn't want to be one of them people that avoid these topics and pretend they don't exist. The prostitution of women and children does exist and Martina Cole spares us nothing of the underworld of it.It's been years since I last read a Martian Cole novel and I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed this dark gritty readable gangster thrillers. The author lost many friends in the 70’s and 80’s caught up in heroin addiction, and writes with a passionate approach to the innocent parties (particularly children) who suffer dreadfully as a consequence. I feel annoyed that I wasted my time and money on this apology for crime fiction. Oh the temptation of the station bookshop with a long train journey ahead. Cole was born in Essex, England, to Irish Catholic parents, and was the youngest of five children. Her mother was a psychiatric nurse from Glasnevin, County Dublin and her father was a merchant seaman from Cork City. Her cousin is the Cork politician Denis Cregan. She was expelled from her convent school aged 15 after allegedly being caught reading a Harold Robbins novel. [1] [2] Cole lives in a Grade II listed, 15th-century manor house near Sevenoaks, Kent. There isn't any investigation ( The crime is solved by someone spilling the beans ) . Just side stories that are repetitive. The glorification of a gangster. A predictive plot. Too much drinking and lots of swearing. Additionally, she has appeared on ITV's This Morning, The Crime Thriller Club, The Wright Stuff for Channel 5, ITV's popular daytime show Loose Women, The One Show and two episodes of Pointless Celebrities for BBC One, and a 2004 edition of The Culture Show. This book is more a mystery than a thriller. She keeps you guessing right to the end. Although there are hints throughout. A serial killer is in town and the race is on for DCI Kate Burrows. Stop the killer before more innocent girls die... Wow. I live in a world where people read this, and then give it 5 stars. We're all doomed I tell you. Doomed !Most of her novels feature a female protagonist or antihero, and some take place within the Irish community in and around London. [4] As a massive fan of Martina Cole books and having read/loved the previous Kate Burrow books 1 to 3, I couldn't read to lose myself into this fourth story featuring DI Kate Burrows. I have read all Martina’s books listed above and now that I am retired I am going to read them all again – love love love them !!
