Less than 15 minutes from Coot Club, Stanford is a declared heritage conservation area, and one of the Cape’s best preserved villages. This is not a bad book, just pretty slow moving and almost entirely focused upon sailing and nautical activities. Fold-away doors open up completely with stairs leading down to a grassed area and the fynbos beyond. Access is via a ramp, and depending on the tide, you either have to walk up or down to get on board.

A deeply restorative setting – ancient gnarled milkwoods and striated saltmarshes lapped by the lake-like Kleinrivier Lagoon, backdropped by the looming mossy hulk of the Maanschynkop mountains. Further afield there are various museums (naval, aviation, transport) there’s a fun outdoor karting centre, plus medieval churches and ornamental gardens to explore - you'll find plenty to do if you like to be busy. I have not read this one since I was a child, and the only things I could remember were a bit about the Norfolk Broads themselves, the barge and wherry, and the nasty lot in the noisy motor cruiser. The cast grows with each new story, but every personality is fresh and new, and I never have trouble keeping track of who is who. are metafictional, being fictional stories of the protagonists' voyages to exotic lands, as imagined by the fictional protagonists.

Not allowing the parents to just take care of the issue (although they are rightly informed) results in lots of sailing, help from other natives and a death and glory ending. They meet the members of the Coot Club: Tom Dudgeon the doctor's son, the twins Port and Starboard, and the 'Death and Glory' pirates Joe, Bill and Pete, Tom casts adrift a motor cruiser full of noisy tourists (the 'Hullabaloos') because they are moored across a coot's nest and then has to flee from their revenge, taking refuge with the Ds.

Lawns is the largest of the lot and can be booked with the little cottage next door, to sleep 11 in total. They offer a completely different type of holiday afloat, since they are permanently moored in a choice of picturesque locations, and most offer day launch hire so you can explore nearby waterside attractions and places of interest. Narrowboats are available in a wide range of layouts, sleeping up to 12 people, and combine their picturesque style with comfortably appointed interiors with modern facilities. Trouble begins when a coot’s nest is disturbed by a ship full of “Hullabaloos”—rude holiday boaters. I would also say that this book has much much more technical terminology about sailing and boating than the 1st book does, which made it less enjoyable and definitely less accessible to me than the 1st book.You do not need a 4x4 to drive the road in, we had a 'normal' car and its absolute fine My only regret is that we didn't have longer here! The camera zooms in and out, computer tech allowing the near zooms to morph into live action and zoom-outs to morph back to the map, so that we always know where we are. Along with a cast of new characters, Dick and Dorothea explore the North and South Broads and become 'able seamen'. We know you don’t book a holiday experience intending to cancel, but sometimes life can get in the way. But the excitement in this book comes principally from the boats: tidal rivers present dangers and challenges the Lake never did, such as lowering the mast to get under a bridge, hitting the bank or running aground, fog, or being caught by the tide and being swept into an obstacle and wrecked.

Forward vision is very good from these craft, which usually feature a single level deck which many parties find more convenient and easy. Besides working on the casting flaws noted above, I'd shoot any and all adults from, at most, the eye level of the tallest child. The spacious cottage sleeps up to 4 adults in 2 bedrooms, plus up to 5 kids in the upstairs loft area. Suggested that I may not have read them all as a child, for looking at the details of them I see they went away from the Lake District, or was it faulty memory. Centre steering position the wheel in these boats is in the main cabin in the middle of the cockpit area.Bookings made less than 8 weeks before your arrival date must be accompanied by the full amount of the holiday. Whilst Dick, Dot, Tom and the Death and Glories get to have more adventures on The Broads in The Big Six, sadly this Port and Starboard's only story. In the books, it's fascinating how quickly a child on a bicycle can shortcut a winding river journey: Time flows differently on water, on shore.
