The aim of The Witcher: Old World is to be the first player to collect 4 trophies, and trophies can be won in 3 different ways, either by defeating monsters or other Witchers or by reaching level 5 of an attribute. Raising attributes is done at Witcher school locations, where players need to pay to raise them and to do that, they'll need to explore and defeat monsters to gain gold. The many cardboard tokens, whilst nothing special, are perfectly fine for regular use. The unique poker dice are well-crafted, adding to the immersive experience. The artwork on the cards and components is faithful to the theme, making it a treat for fans of The Witcher universe. The last of the sets turns things into a little bit of a boss encounter. You have two Ghouls and then the Grave Hag that you could use as the focal point of a scenario. Because The Witcher: Old World is set a few hundred years before the stories and tales involving Geralt, he's not a playable character in the game, but there is a Witcher from the School of the Wolf, along with the Bear, Cat, Griffin, and Viper, each with their own special ability. The Witcher: Old World standard edition comes with tokens for the monsters, whereas the Deluxe edition upgrades them to miniatures. There are some great narrative elements in the quests, and while I would have liked to have seen this expanded more, it would have added to the run time and would be best experienced in solo play. This campaign begins with standard 20-foot containers, adds all-new half-sized 10-foot containers, and then is followed by “hab” containers: tiny homes and small shops for your present-day, near-future, or far-future battlefield. By all accounts, these miniatures are exceptionally good quality. I've seen a few images of the actual plastic miniatures and the details seem to be very crisp indeed. Leading the way is the first character set that contains three particularly iconic characters. You have Geralt Of Rivia, Yennefer and Dandelion. All of these miniatures that you're going to be seeing here are in plastic and come in around that 28/32mm scale. So, they should line up well with lots of other ranges.

Monster Fight Club has now put together their first crop of miniatures for you to use with your Witcher-based tabletop adventures. You could use these for the R.Talsorian roleplaying game or perhaps even a skirmish game or two if you want to give it a Witcher vibe! The deluxe includes monster miniatures for all the types featured and whilst not exactly needed they do add to the immersive experience and will certainly enhance table presence even unpainted. It is worth pointing out that the miniatures in this game are excellent. Both in terms of the sculpts and their detail. I especially liked the sculpted bases and dynamic poses of the various Witchers. Gameplay Our unpainted pewter fantasy miniatures are in the newer heroic 28mm gaming scale which has become the industry standard over the past 22 years. Our first four fantasy miniature lines are based on the iconic fantasy artwork of Larry Elmore , Keith Parkinson (RIP), Clyde Caldwell & Jeff Easley. All four artists have been gaming industry icons for the past 42 years now and their artwork needs no introduction.

The replayability of The Witcher: Old World is commendable. The game features multiple monster types, quest cards, event cards, and variable player powers, ensuring that each play-through feels different. Additionally, the game’s expansion content further enhances replayability, introducing new characters, quests, and challenges. More on the expansions in the conclusion. Theme & Artwork The artwork and graphic design deserve praise for capturing the dark and gritty atmosphere of The Witcher. The illustrations on the cards and the game board are evocative, making players feel like they are part of the Continent’s treacherous world. I really liked the [often] gory illustrations on the action cards, they add extra depth to a great combo! Final Verdict The first player to acquire 4-6 trophies, with the number being set at the start of play, wins the game instantly. You can obtain trophies by killing monsters, instigating and winning chaotic tavern brawls against another witcher, training attributes to their highest level, and resolving certain quests throughout their adventure. The Witcher: Old World contains a significant number of components, the majority of which are high quality, like the dual-layer player boards! The game board is large and beautifully illustrated, depicting the dark and gritty world of The Witcher, as a map to explore, with additional sections for the various cards needed to play the game. This wonderful art extends to the action and monster cards that are at the core of the game play. The fun continues with the first of the Classes set (above) which comes with a Dwarf Craftsman, a Human Man-At-Arms and then the Human Mage. This will be handy when adding NPCs into your games if you're looking to play with the main characters of The Witcher series but also as your unique characters that you're making for roleplaying adventures.
