Mary Ruth Maxted (née Quilter; [1] [2] 30 November 1945– 19 August 1979), known professionally as Mary Millington from 1974 onwards, was an English model and pornographic actress. In February 1974, Maureen O’Malley, her co-star in Sex is My Business, introduced her to adult magazine publisher David Sullivan. That same year she turned 33 and found herself being replaced by younger models in Sullivan's magazines.

And there are plenty of other great, or not-so-great but similarly important, films in the genre too, which I'd love to celebrate in future. Glamour model, cover girl and hardcore porn actress, Mary was a fervent campaigner for the abolition of the Obscene Publications act, and a forthright bisexual who promoted her ideals of sexual openness and equality. I don't care if anybody gets sniffy about Mary's films, because they're actually hugely culturally significant. A blue plaque on the site of the former Moulin Cinema in Great Windmill Street, Soho, commemorates its 201-week run there, which is listed in the Guinness Book Of World Records as the longest-running screening in British cinema history. In November 1977, magistrates acquitted her and Sullivan following prosecution under the Obscene Publications Acts. In her first appearance in Sullivan's Whitehouse magazine, he claimed that she was the bisexual nymphomaniac sister of the magazine's editor Doreen Millington, which led Mary to her new stage name. The film had two early DVD releases in the UK, the first by Medusa Pictures (1999) with the short 6-minute prologue to the 1980 documentary True Blue Confessions as an extra. I‘ll bet it took him all his time to keep his towel on during rehearsals for the film… it looked to me, Mary, as though you were fucked rigid during the film". The film subsequently made its internet debut on 26 July 2008 at the (now defunct) site ZDD Visual Explosion.

She starred in around twenty short hardcore films for John Lindsay, [9] although only five ( Miss Bohrloch, Oral Connection, Betrayed, Oh Nurse and Special Assignment) have so far resurfaced. As a new Blu-ray box set collating her films is released, its curator and her biographer, Simon Sheridan, explains all about Mary Millington, a pioneering personality of the 1970s.
