When playing in the co-op mode, players upgrade enemy health and lose out on the advantages that come from the character improvement of campaign mode. Both of these modes are elegantly built on top of the core loop. The campaign mode lets players buy their way through a skill tree, giving you a better chance as you delve deeper. Monsters, dangers, treasures, bosses, dungeons, random rooms and encounters are all present in Mini Rogue. In this 1-2 player game, you play an adventurer who dives into a dungeon, room after room, area after area, level after level, to steal the Blood of Og: a legendary and mysterious gem. Each area of the dungeon is laid out as a branching of rooms. Each time you encounter two rooms, you must choose one of them. Now, Nuts! brings us a fix to our role playing game habits with Mini Rogue, a solo or two player game of high fantasy in which the game becomes the Dungeon Master. Heighten your dungeon-crawling experience with the allure of gold. This 9-card expansion is composed of all boss cards and a rewards card with a stunning holographic effect.

Mini Rogue is a game deeply inspired by roguelikes.In this single-player or cooperative game, you play as an adventurer who, room by room and floor by floor, slowly makes his way into the heart of the dungeon in search of the Blood of Og: a legendary artifact with an aura of mystery. When I was a 12 year old child I first discovered Dungeons and Dragons at a candy store owned by a dentist (he was probably investing in making sure he had future work as a dentist) in Dayton, Ohio. At one corner of the candy store was a section which included Dungeons and Dragon Basic Sets and the hard cover Advanced Dungeons and Dragons books – Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide and the Monster Manual. He also had Ral Partha miniatures made out of real lead and tons of dice as well as some war games like Ogre and Star Fleet Battles. That store was my gateway drug to the wonderful world of role playing and war gaming. I can’t even tell you how many hours I spent with my friends playing D&D on Friday and Saturday nights. Now that I’m older, I don’t have as much time to keep up with role playing as I used to and it’s currently a little difficult to get groups together anymore.{default} The object of the game is to take your character (either a Wizard/Mage, Rogue/Thief, Crusader/Fighter and a Priestess/Cleric) and fight through the different levels of the either the dungeon or tower and try to find a great artifact called “Og’s Blood”, a mysterious ruby gem stone.

On your turn you move either to the card to your right or the card below you. The cards to the right and below are revealed so you know what area you are moving into. After you have moved you resolve the encounter. A lot of the time you will roll your pool of dice which includes your character die or dice and the dungeon die. You may also have other negative effect dice to roll as well. Depending on the encounter will determine the outcome of the die results. To make up the current floor, shuffle the room cards, deal out 8 of them in a 3×3 grid placing the Exit card in the lower right, and you are ready to go. You always start in the top right corner and must traverse to the lower left corner to get out. Watch out for the boss monster which will be the bottom right (if you are on the final area of this level of the dungeon)! Mini Rogue is a solo-only 30-45 minute minimalistic (component wise) dungeon delve with randomly generated levels and encounters. Mini Rogue is designed by Paolo Di Stefano & Gabriel Gendron and published by Nuts! Publishing. You can choose between a range of characters that have different starting health, gold, experience and abilities. There is a 3 x 3 grid of encounter cards laid out face down which forms your dungeon. Room cards contain things like traps, monsters, random people you find on your quest such as merchants or hunters or special rooms such as the alter room. You can trade gold with merchants and hunters to buy food, potions, heals, etc. You may run in to a friendly raven who, for either food or gold, will help you in your quest. I generally like the idea of Dungeon crawlers, but one of the main issues is they often are a table hog, have long set up times and come in big boxes full of minis. Mini Rogue is a breeze to set up. You can be up and running in under 5 minutes. It is a minimalistic dungeon crawler and I think it is better for it. The designers/publishers have taken a different approach and I thank them for it.

Note: per this thread, the same cards are already in the base game, these just have the holographic foil effect added. Thus this item is treated on BGG as an accessory (adding bling), rather than an expansion (adding functionality). Anyway, once you take care of the room you are in, you reveal the next two rooms to the right and below where you are. You get to choose between them, and as the level progresses you eventually wind up in the bottom right of the grid. Once there, you descend a level which means you have to eat a Food (or lose 3 HP), reset any abilities you have, and reset the grid for the next level. If it’s a boss level though, you fight a big baddie. The co-op game is fine, it plays pretty much like you’d expect and there’s built-in modifications to account for another player. It’s fun to have two different character classes with their unique powers in the mix, but I’ve found that going it alone is really where this game excels. It seems a bit easier with another player, but if that turns out to be an issue there are some difficulty modifications.Just played a learning game of this. Got about halfway through the dungeon before I ran out of food and died. I agree with everything Michael wrote in the review. They really accomplished so much with so little here that it's undeniably impressive. A neat thing is that it's perfect information when exploring while still "feeling" like exploring because of the grid. Like there's just enough of a sense of movement even if it's ultimately meaningless because you always start top-left and end bottom-right. Mini Rogue is a game profoundly inspired by roguelikes and roleplaying games. Monsters, hazards, treasures, bosses, dungeons, random rooms and encounters are all featured in Mini Rogue. Shuffle the room cards and place them face down, three room cards for the first and second rows and two room cards and a face down boss card for the third row. The Necromancer (The Old Gods expansion card identified by triangle-shaped icon in lower right corner of image) That being said, I do know that some of my friends have some of the expansions, and they say that the game is even better and is much improved with “lore cards”. I don’t have any idea what they mean by this, but hopefully one of them will comment below.

Had my regular Cthulhu Wars crew over today. We usually try to start with something else (we've been playing a fair amount of Tiny Epic Crimes lately) and when talking about a couple other games, I... The Heliomancer (Depths Of Damnation expansion card identified by diamond-shaped icon in lower right corner of image) Put your character meeple on the first room which is the room on the left most position on the 3 x 3 matrix of cards you have put face down. Flip that starting room card over and deal with the results.
