This model has been discontinued. Even if you do manage to find one for sale, there’s really no reason to choose it over the new The Remote or Smart Remote, and there are some good reasons not to.

Complete camera control: delivers full remote control of all Camera Functions, including shutter, on/off, and settings. The remote should now display the camera's capture settings and recording mode, indicating that pairing was successful. Not all GoPros support these remote controls. The HERO7 Silver and White, for instance, do connect to the mobile app but won’t let you connect a remote control. Same with the HERO (2018). And some older GoPros, in particular, won’t work with the Bluetooth connection or voice commands of the Remo. Changing settings. Changing settings from the app is much more intuitive than doing it using the smart remote. The design closely resembles the first-generation GoPro Wi-Fi remote. It doesn’t feature a settings button like the second-generation GoPro smart remote (above), but it has all the other features including an LCD screen that displays key information.The natural upside of that is better compatibility with existing and future GoPro models. It’s also manufactured with GoPro’s high standards, meaning it really is waterproof up to 33ft (10m) and operational at a 600ft (180m) range in optimal conditions. It lets you change settings thanks to its dedicated settings button. It even includes a programmable button that the official Smart Remote doesn’t feature. The GoPro Smart Remote is GoPro’s official remote accessory for GoPros that preceded the GoPro Hero 8. It’s not the oldest official remote, however, as it succeeds an even older remote called the “GoPro Wi-Fi remote”. Once again, being an official GoPro accessory, it costs slightly more than unofficial options. Press the [Mode Button] repeatedly until the [Settings Icon] (wrench) appears; press the [Shutter button] to enter Settings.

If your GoPro features voice control (most of the newer ones do), you can control it remotely by saying one of the voice commands. Removing the other buttons from the face has also made for a bigger, higher resolution screen. This reduces the chances of needing to squint to see your camera status. When the Smart Remote displays a radiating Wi-Fi symbol, press and hold the [Settings/Tag] button on the remote (wrench icon). When the remote shows two arrows moving towards each other, you can let go of the remote's [Settings/Tag] button. The Smart Remote is now in pairing mode.Press the [Info/Wireless Button] on the left side of the camera with the lens facing you. You’ll see a blue LED blink every couple of seconds to show that you camera’s Wi-Fi is turned on. For the Max, it was added in firmware update v2.00 (December 17, 2020). You can find the MAX’s latest firmware here. Features & Specs The GoPro Smart Remote is waterproof and can be used in 600ft (180m) range! You can drop it, soak it, throw it or get i really dirty. You can also use it with up to 50 cameras at once, you probably never need that functionality but good to know you have that option. After you’ve done the pairing process once, they’ll automatically connect when they’re both powered on. When you rely on remote controlling your GoPro with a mobile app you have the benefit of seeing the shot and can reframe if needed and you can also change ALL settings in the mobile app. But you are also very limited as your phone is big, the touch screen is not easy to work in some conditions and you can use it in dirty or wet conditions. The Remote is the successor to GoPro’s existing Smart Remote, which is compatible with older cameras and offers superior specs in certain areas — it has a range of up to 600 feet (180m), it can control up to 50 cameras at a time, and it’s waterproof down to 33 feet (10m). If you see [Detach current remote?] Highlight and select [Yes]. After that, you should see two arrows moving towards each other on the camera’s screen. This means that the camera is in pairing mode. Note – the camera is in pairing mode only when its screen shows the two arrows moving towards each other.

In the [Wireless] menu, press the [Mode Button] until [REM CTRL] is highlighted and then press the [Shutter Button] to select it. It consists mostly of a single large button (there’s actually second small button on the side that works as a power/pairing button). It’s waterproof (but doesn’t work actually underwater), rated down to 16 feet or 5 meters. In optimum conditions, GoPro claims it has a range of up to 33 feet (10 meters) away. The range is much shorter than the Smart Remote because the Remo connects only via Bluetooth, which has a much shorter effective range than wifi. And it recharges via USB, with a USB-C connector. As you’d expect, you can power your GoPro on and off and hit the record button to begin recording remotely. It lets you add HiLight tags to mark key moments and the LCD display lets you know things like the remaining battery life and how long you’ve been recording.
