Also includes: Deluxe 252 page 12"x12" hardback book which tells the story of The Beatles album by album and with fascinating new essays on the historical importance of vinyl and the mastering process. It is the second complete box set collection of original Beatles recordings after The Beatles Box Set (1988). Then there is always the option of spending top dollar on original UK pressings (which are near impossible to find in NM condition).

This means all the digital edits and mastering found on the streaming/CD versions are all here on the LPs. On the Japanese Oricon weekly album charts, it debuted at number 6, selling over 35,000 copies in its first week. It was the practice at Abbey Road Studios prior to early 1963 to wipe and reuse master tapes once they had been mixed down to mono for single release.

Apart from the well doccumented longer un-cut edits and tweaks of mixes that are included in this excellent set there are just two serious and needless flaws and gaffs. You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)" is the only track left in the Beatles' catalogue of which the original edit has never received a stereo mix despite the multi-tracks being available. The DVD features narration from all four Beatles as well as George Martin as the opening on each of the individual albums. The individual documentaries are also to be found on the 13 original CDs as QuickTime files for viewing on a computer.

The fact that the discs were cut by the Beatles original cutting engineer means you are getting very authentic versions of the songs. Never sure why this set is pretty much mocked and is not more desirable by Beatles fans world wide knowing the usual collecting fanaticism for anything Beatle related. The Stereo Box also features a DVD which contains all the short films that are on the CDs in QuickTime format. While available also in vinyl LP and cassette formats, the box set was the first complete collection of original Beatles material to be released by EMI and Capitol Records on compact disc. The set is good value for money at the moment, but I expect the value to rise sharply as word on the quality of the set seems to be getting out.

That the band steered Yellow Submarine from morose folk trifle to boisterous stoner singalong seems improbable, but the tapes don’t lie: through a combination of focused acoustic woodshedding and whimsical studio risks, the band arrived at the more familiar, upbeat Yellow Submarine. and Yellow Submarine Songtrack have also received re-releases akin to the presentation of the 2009 remasters. Revolver’s music is the result of the band members having space to breathe and reset their creativity. If anything else, Mono Vinyl Box used real audio ( analogue ) master tapes - no cheating this time 'round !
