Another masterpiece from director Gerard Corbiau which contains beautiful music, beautiful costumes and beautiful storytelling. The music is like a character in the story and it makes the sweeping, sentimental story of the unrequited passion of the composer for the king seem more like an opera than a conventional film biography. I found a dramatic clip of 'Le Roi Danse' on YouTube which seemed, however, not to be organised as a chronological story. Sadly, the film has a rather abrupt ending leaving the viewer wanting to know how exactly the relationship between Lully and Louis ended.
