Yes, as I said, it was more Carroll – and more Alice, courtesy of the sequel that everybody mis-titles, Through the Looking Glass. Tiny crockery, vintage props and sweet treats filled the table, capturing the magic and mysteries of Wonderland.Alice and Westwoord are the perfect collaboration and it's usable and enjoyable to read- it's such a good gift for adults and kids who love Alice! Alice’s legacy extends in many directions, but she’s cast a particularly significant shadow over fashion. Vivienne has personally designed front cover and end papers as well as written the introduction which reveals her passion for the story and its personal ties with her own manifesto for positive activism and sustainability. The second designer is Claudia Bradby, who has designed a pearl Alice necklace and bracelet set to mark this very important birthday.

The Queen of Hearts, Mad Hatter and White Rabbit surround a bespoke distorted table adorned in Westwood’s fabric that shrinks down to miniature size. Overall I really love this edition although it is a lot more low-key than a lot of other editions including the Barnes and Noble Leatherbound Edition (which I own).Grace Coddington, former creative director at American Vogue, described it as an “exhausting, exhilarating” and “magical” shoot, and Vodianova brought a combination of wide-eyed innocence and sulky humour to the photos that seemed to befit a contemporary understanding of Alice. It's a fantasia as opposed to a flop, a nuance and not a nonsense, and while it riffs off a young child's frustration at not being able to play chess (among other things), it is one perfect remove from the real world – via the imagination of a child (as perceived by a gent in his late 30s) into a surreal landscape, with even more bizarre characters than before.

Wonderland as symbolic of our present day society, and Alice becomes a rebel who sees through this madness. To understand Westwood’s ideas, however, it is best to begin at the end, at the point when her introduction comes to a close.
