The objective is to move to the end of the killzone and prevent your opponent from doing the same. So price-wise you can really see the value in these sets. On the base level the Recruit Edition looks a steal as you are getting a large number of models at quite a low value per model, just remember – Rank and File are normally the cheapest. Build the first couple of sprues and you’re ready to go. Hey folks, today we’re going to take a look at the Warhammer 40,000 Recruit Edition Starter Set and I’m going to tell you why I believe it’s one of the best introductory box sets available! Hint: that may have happened to the author during his first game of Warhammer Fantasy Battles. Warhammer 40,000 Elite Edition Starter Set Review – Unboxing The Elite Edition Starter Set. Think of this as the “Grande” of the new starter sets. Don’t get me wrong – the Necrons are beautiful models and they go together very well. They, too, have very minimal mould line cleanup and a very beginner-friendly range as far as painting goes. After the plastic has been decanted we have the card divider we’ve come to expect in Warhammer boxes. These are usually far more visually impressive than they have any business being for the function they serve. The Artful DividerI can tell you from years of making models, and only recently becoming a commission painter, these are some of the easiest models I’ve ever assembled. One side is the red crusted earth pattern often attributed to the barren landscape of Mars. The other side bears the non-living mechanical aspect of a Necron Tomb World. It is a little strange that the Starter Sets are tipped in the favor of the Necrons – at least on paper. If you remember from the point breakdown for the Indomitus Box’s Necronsand Space Marines, those ended up being really close. They even ended up at the exact same Power Level in the end. But to be fair, at these smaller point games, it’s harder for the Space Marines to find units that fill that small point gap as they just don’t have Primaris Units that would slot in easily. I guess their faith in the Emperor (and their Power Armor saves) will have to make up the difference! Or an extra CP. Whatever…

I won’t dive into each sprue the way he has since I don’t think there’s much I could add to what he’s already said, but I’ll give some of my impressions from building the models.There’s a lot to love in the new Kill Team Starter Set. However, there are also a few bits that could’ve been done a tiny bit better. If you just want to learn the core rules you could probably go Recruit, but remember that the extra units you get are high movement high damage output and so introduce the idea of battlefield roles and illustrate what higher performing units do. The thing I care about in both sets is the models. The Assault intercessors themselves clearly have distinct poses. The Necrons are also unique when compared to their Indomits counterparts. but this time you get the Gauss Flayer Rifle Only (there’s no Gauss Reaper option unlike in the main set). Beyond the divider, we have the literature and other bits and pieces that don’t play well with sprues that are going to be jostled about in transit.
