There are some solid choices here, and you need to choose carefully based on what roles you are assigning your operatives. In the case of strike forces bolstered by Primaris battle-brothers, this role is filled by the Intercessor Squads. If the Tactical Doctrine was active for your army during the previous battle round, you can change it so that the Assault Doctrine is now active. The challenge was then to make sure that even when people get two, or three, or four boxes, they can make all of their Terminators look fairly different by swapping around heads, arms, and legs. It’s an easy thing to die on the battlefields of the 41st Millennium, so if you want to stay alive a little longer, bring a storm shield with you! Rather than a 3+ invulnerable save, all storm shields will instead offer a 4+ invulnerable save as well as a buff to the bearer’s armour. After all, it only makes sense that heavily armoured Terminators carrying storm shields should be all but impervious to incoming fire compared to their power-armoured battle-brothers. In fact, they’ll effectively start off with a 1+ save (though an unmodified roll of 1 always fails), so you’ll need to hit them with -2 AP to even make a difference! Dom: The old Command Squad was a bit of a grab bag, so this time we talked a lot about what it actually means to be a Company Hero – this idea that any Space Marine can be elevated through valorous deeds. Chapters base a lot of their training around the Tactical, Assault, and Devastator doctrines, and we wanted to reinforce these roles so there’d be a strong resonance between the squad and Space Marines as a whole. Efficient: Probably the word that best defines the intercessors is that they are efficient. Unlike their brothers on the Phobos kill team Intercessors have access to re-rolls, plus with some tactics they are able to hit on a 3+ regardless of whether they wounded, performing Overwatch, or standing guard. Unlike their predecessors, who treated their power armour like holy relics and treasured every bracer, greave, and pauldron, the Primaris Space Marines had specialised purpose-built armour types to suit their many roles. Intercessors wore the baseline Mk X Tacticus suit, which mirrored the balance and flexibility of the older armour marks, while frontline Captains and assault troops like the Inceptors wore the heavier Mk X Gravis armour.It’s a testament to their ingenious design that the miniatures give a real sense of speed to what is essentially a solid mass of armour and fury, melding the brutally efficient Space Marine aesthetic with dynamic aerial poses. On the other hand against elites take good advantage of your plasma pistol – if you can place it in such a way that it can shoot with the revenge shot that’s ideal, so you can do double damage. Also take advantage of the auxiliary grenade launcher – your plan here is to start the job with grenades and then finish things off with assault intercessors. Intercessors in the Gallowdark

Flame Weapons

With Intercessors your plan is often going to be to have a very conservative first turn where you don’t lose any models, or better yet you don’t take any damage. You want to score as much as you can in this first turn without losing models. During this first turning point you’ll want to do as many Move + Score + Dash rounds to get into heavy cover as you can. Abuse those 3 APL profiles to place yourself and score where you should. Then there’s the Stalker bolt rifle, which burdens you with Heavy on a team where we want to be always on the move. So despite having AP1 it will pretty much never be taken into consideration. The strength of this model is the 2+ to hit bolter, combined with Reclusiam-Blessed Bolts and a Vengeance Class Scope if the model takes a bolt rifle, which basically gives your sergeant a sawn off heavy bolter that hits on 2+. Combined with a power weapon or other powerful melee weapon this is model is the Rambo of the Intercession team. That’s just a better option than giving him a fist or hammer. Meanwhile the Terminator Squad comes absolutely armed to the teeth with extreme firepower, can teleport once per battle with their teleportation homing beacon, and can add 1 to the hit rolls of your Oath of Moment targets.
