My only real problem with this book (other than the fact that I didn’t think it was possible for a person to have THIS many friends), is the amount of tangents and metaphors packed into each chapter. It can be quite a minefield at times especially as you get older, but also I know what I want from friendships these days, so I suppose it’s a bit easier in some ways. The book is an easy read about friendship and I think it's very much a book that will be appreciated more by women, I'm excited for some female friends to read it so I can hear their opinions about it. Her memoir, How To Fail: Everything I’ve Ever Learned From Things Going Wrong is a Sunday Times top 5 bestseller and has been described as ‘life-changing’ by critics. At that point you suddenly go oh yeah, she’s another professional victim, and the text loses authority as you notice how foggy her world is, and then it just gets gloomy.

I can’t think of a better guide to opening up the discussion of all those relationships that, after all, massively outnumber our romantic and, for most of us, family connections.Her third, Paradise City was named one of the best novels of 2015 in the Observer and the Evening Standard, and was People magazine's Book of the Week. I spent a lot of my time reading this book and thinking "Yes that happened to me" or "OMG that's me" or "I do/did that", so I feel it's a sign of a good book when so much of it relates or I feel seen. That gives you some idea of the sheer breadth of subject matter Day covers in the book, but it cannot convey the astonishing depth and insight of her writing, the sheer beauty of her prose, the elegance with which she expresses her passion for the subject. I’ve already bought this for several people and recommended to others and all are finding it an insightful read.
