Get HiFi decoding not only with the USB input but with the coax and optical as well. The E50’s coax and optical inputs support 24-bit/192kHz PCM, DSD64 (DoP), and MQA rendering. this dac can be used as "TV" dac, there is digital volume control - no issues basically with that right? I assume if you lose pilot your screwed? (no other volume control options?) Advice above is best for current situation. Tidal are working on making their desktop app tidal connect capable so if you are prepared to wait, you could save money buying a streamer and instead use your phone to control tidal on the pc and leave it wired to the dac. Also, I don't have an issue running more through the TV and then to the E50 but I'm trying to maximize performance while keeping it simple for my wife and kids.

Hello everyone, I tried the Topping E50 MQA, with this dac I like to listen to Tidal master unfortunately for convenience I would like to transmit MQA from the smartphone in wifi.

This new Topping DAC says it supports full MQA decoding over all inputs incl coax. Have my Node 2i connected via coax and set to support an MQA External DAC. When I play MQA files via Tidal, the Node now shows the song as either "CD" or "HR" (vs "MQA") and the DAC displays PCM. OFS - Confirms that the product is receiving an MQA stream or file. This delivers the final unfold of the MQA file and displays the original sample rate." The E50 has a preamplifier function. It is thus possible to control the volume level thanks to the remote control supplied. Ideal for association with a power amplifier or active speakers. I can’t set the Topping in exclusive mode because it doesn’t recognize the manufacturer (it’s not on their list) - so it doesn’t even offer that option. I am not interested in changing the Node2i, it does what I need. Roon won’t do MQA without it.

All of this I find strange and frankly annoying. Since Node2i supposedly does full MQA pass trough and D90SE is fully capapble of handling MQA.In the WIIM app it's still reading as 24 bits 88.2kHz. Decided to get the Volumio 15 day trial anyway. Tidal would be a bit useless without it, but fine for own collection as a music player

I have an SMSL DAC that is also not “recognized” by Roon in the sense that it is not Roon Tested. It shows up as an “Unidentified Device”. But Exclusive mode is a USB protocol thing, I am pretty sure, regardless of who makes the DAC. The E50 uses the latest ESS ES9068AS DAC chip, a 32-bit, 2-channel D/A converter designed for audiophile-grade applications. I'm not here to debate that or sound quality. I'm just trying to understand the signal path and the process of what's happening to the file, and what the WIIM + E50 are actually playing. Before I got the E50, I had the WIIM Pro hooked to my Marantz SR5015 and the readout would say 96kHz and 88.2kHz on these files, not drop to 44.1 on the 88.2 files like below. But, of course I still like to understand why it wont give me full MQA (but that boys and girls is a story for another time). If your audio source is a downstream application with an MQA decoder, such as Tidal or Roon. The application may have a switch to disable the MQA decoder and passthrough the bitstream signal to your endpoint device. If you only need a DAC to use with powered speakers, you can skip buying an amp completely. That’s because the E50 has a preamplifier mode.
