We reviewed the Region free UK Ultra HD Blu-ray release of Dawn of the Dead on a Panasonic 65DX902B Ultra HD 4K TV with a Panasonic DP-UB450 Dolby Vision HDR10+ 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player. A whole host of extra features spread over all the discs in the set, with almost all the previous released material and an all new set to explore. Romero's classic low budget horror and sequel to 'Night of the Living Dead' where the dead now roam the entire American continent, feeding off the flesh of the living. However, only the theatrical and extended cuts show the most improvement since they were mastered in HDR10 and HDR10+, delivering significantly punchier, cleaner and spot-on whites in nearly every scene, especially coming from the various light fixtures of the mall.

He also gets on the case of the fans who have used images and clips from the film on their web sites without permission – the point is valid, but made at tiring length.Along with several other bonus goodies inside, the entire UHD package makes for a Highly Recommended addition to the 4K library. Romero's cult film Dawn of the Dead (1978), starring Scott Reiniger, Ken Foree, David Emge, Gaylen Ross, and Tom Savini. Snyder does a great job of making the movie a veritable blood bath, with blood, guts, gore and entrails hanging from every corner. Smart, punchy and occasionally quite disturbing, Romero takes his zombie concept to the next level with Dawn. Disc 2 plays without a menu since there is nothing else to choose from, but has chapter stops every 5 minutes.

There is a new level of detail to the image, crisp edges and defined features, from close up skin texture to overhead views of landscapes. The second half goes long beyond the film’s release, looking at the rest of Romero’s career and how it, and the film industry, changed after Dawn. Zombies and Bikers – New hour long documentary feature with contributions from John Amplas, Roy Frumkes, Tom Savini, Christine Forrest, Tom Dubensky, Tony Buba, Taso Stavrakis.It’s a tour de force track that hasn’t aged at all in the in the near 9 years since it was first released on Blu-ray. I still love Dawn though (as well as Day), so I, like most horror/genre movie fans in the UK, was thrilled to hear that Second Sight Films were releasing an exhaustively well-stuffed box set of Dawn of the Dead on both UHD and Blu-ray. On the film's release, Tom Savini's grisly makeup effects – which include chucks of flesh being bitten from arms and necks, the top of a head lopped off by a helicopter rotor blade and a body being torn apart in front of its horrified owner's eyes – were a bit too much for the British censor, who only passed the film for general release after some of the more graphic effects shots had been trimmed.
