I do love the camaraderie between all the characters in this series, especially Ryan and Frank Phillips.

The girl has apparently been killed during the Summer Solstice, which gives the case some connection to the occult.It's a scene which appears obvious to us as readers, and the fact that the warning signs are all there, but to a teenager pushing their own boundaries some fifteen years ago, the naivety assures a lack of awareness that can only result in tragedy. Another fine addition to the series, with the usual blend of humour, mystery, tension and romance that fans have come to love.

I would point out, to those reading the above blurb, that, although the DCI Ryan books are mainly set in Northumberland, some of his cases bring him as far south as Durham City and Teesdale.J. Ross, though she was still unsatisfied with her career that would not give her the flexibility she desired to have as a mother. DCI Ryan is the strong, silent type of character that always seems to have some woman chasing after him. I believe L J Ross wrote this further down the line as people wanted the full story/background on DCI Ryan and the early history of the team.
