High Willhays. This is the highest point on Dartmoor.621 metres above sea level, High Willhays is one of only twomountains in southern England. The difficulty of the event is very weather dependant - besides lovely spring days, there has been snow, heatwaves, fog, and heavy rain (making river crossing dangerous) over the 50 years the event has been running. Ger Tor. Situated high above the tail of Tavy Cleave in the west section of the National Park. Stunning views.

Fur Tor. As above. One for keen walkers and Dartmoorenthusiasts, Fur Tor is located in the heart of the National Park's north moor. Sensational views. The nationally and internationally rare flax-leaved St John’s-wort can be found in its largest British population on the scree slopes of the upper Teign valley. The great Dartmoor walks in the list below cater for walkers of all abilities from easy low-level circular walks to routes across the high moorland tors. All walks are free to Xownload and print and all routes have GPX files. Top Ten Tors tips

Sharp Tor (Teign Gorge/North East Dartmoor). Located on the north lip of the Teign Gorge with awesome views of the National Trust's Castle Drogo and Dartmoor's north moor. There are many Sharp Tors on Dartmoor. This one is in the north east section of the National Park. Following the Burrator and Sheeps Tor Circular Walk will take you around the reservoir and up to the top of the tor for a picturesque hike. Great Links Tor. Beast of a tor dominating the westflank of Dartmoor. Provides sensational views of Dartmoor's north moor, the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Cornwall. The open moorland provides an important breeding area for ground nesting birds, but if they get disturbed they can abandon their nests or young. Make sure you know where the rare bird nesting areas are and plan your route to avoid them from 1 March - 31 July.

This magical place has been mentioned in writing for hundreds of years. It is believed to be left-over from the ancient forest that covered much of Dartmoor since 7000 BC, before Mesolithic hunter-gatherers cleared it around 5000 BC. Photographs show it has been changing rapidly since the the mid-19th century as the Devon climatic conditions have generally become warmer. The oldest oaks appear to be 400–500 years old and survived in scrub form during two centuries of cold climate. Those years got me four events (as we call Ten Tors) under my belt: 35, 45 twice and 55. I was the first girl across the line on the 50th Anniversary of the event. My team finished a 45 mile route at 7:56am on Sunday morning – although sadly only in training. But when you’re doing 10 tors, you can’t help wondering if it’s possible to do all of them in one go… Why Now? Please Note: From Ten Tors 2020 on, rare bird nesting areas and other out of bounds areas are shown on the Annex A paper mapping which has been distributed to Team Managers. Previous versions should be ignored and discarded. Watch out for bogs! Get to know Dartmoor’s towns and villages and learn about the landscape and rich history of the surrounding areas with this series of introductory walking routes.Tors/walks close by – Leather Tor Circular Walk has to be one of south Dartmoor’s most beautiful walks, starting at Sharpitor, walk to the summit, enjoying views across Burrator Reservoir. The route is a circuit, of roughly 330 miles (measured with string on a 1:50,000 OS map). I’ll be going to each tor once and only once, not leaving the Open Access Land where possible. Cox Tor.Awesome views. Great place from which to watch the sun set over the Westcountry. Very easily accessible from a large car parking area on the western edge of Dartmoor's high moor. Cox Tor is also superb as part of a circular walk taking in Roos Tor and The Staple Tors. Fur Tor. One for keen walkers and Dartmoorenthusiasts, Fur Tor is located in the heart of the National Park's north moor. Sensational views. The Erme is a river in south Devon, England. From its source on Dartmoor it flows in a generally southerly direction past some of the best-preserved archaeological remains on the moor. The River Erme is a beautiful mountain river that rises on Dartmoor and flows southwards to the sea, cutting a deep and narrow valley as far as the small town of Ivybridge, near Plymouth. Longtimber Woods are just north of the town centre. From New Bridge you can walk or drive along Erme Road and continue along Station Road keeping the river on your right. Enter the woods at the railway viaduct, where there is room for cars to park at the side of the road.

High Willhays and Yes Tor. These are in the north westsection of Dartmoor National Park above Okehampton. At 621 metres above sea level, High Willhays is the highest tor on Dartmoor and the highest point in southern England. Both High Willhays and Yes Tor are located on the same broad ridge so you can easily visit both on the same walk. Belstone Tor (Belstone Tors and Tors End). A stunning ridgeline of tors near the pretty Dartmoor village Belstone. Very easily accessible and essential visiting if you're a keen walker.Great Links Tor.As above.
