People who choose Serenity House residential addiction treatment can take advantage of beneficial therapy approaches, including: Staff obtained people’s consent before providing care to them. People were provided with access to activities and leisure pursuits.

Through years of experience in addiction treatment, the staff of Serenity House Detox & Recovery Houston are ready to help you detox from the substances controlling your life today. Staff experience is important in helping treat each patient with compassion and dignity. At the same time, our staff understands your fears of withdrawal. They use the latest methods for providing greater comfort during your stay at Serenity House Detox & Recovery. Staff received regular supervision and on-going training which was appropriate to their role. There were regular therapeutic group sessions which supported the people and the staff and allowed them to explore areas which mattered to them. Serenity House can accommodate up to three people in one adapted building. At the time of our inspection two people were living at the home. The care service has been developed and designed in line with the values that underpin the Registering the Right Support and other best practice guidance. These values include choice, promotion of independence and inclusion. People with learning disabilities and autism using the service can live as ordinary a life as any citizen. People had good health care support from professionals. The provider and staff worked in partnership with health and care professionals. In 2018, in partnership with Community Foundation of Loudoun and Northern Fauquier Counties, Melissa Hinton spearheaded an initiative to open the first women’s recovery house in Loudoun County. Loudoun Serenity House opened in the town of Leesburg, VA in October 2020 after the tragic loss of Melissa’s younger sister Rachel in 2019 from her addiction. With an outpouring of community support, a men's house was also opened in November 2021.

We observed that staff communicated well with the people who used the service and promoted an inclusive, supportive environment. Karen spent 20 years in the music business, holding various senior positions within all the major record companies. Working with some of the world’s largest bands, artists, their managers and record label executives, she saw first-hand the damage that mental health and substance misuse could do to those under the weighting pressure of the music industry at all levels.

Full information about CQC’s regulatory response to the more serious concerns found during inspections is added to reports after any representations and appeals have been concluded. Staff felt able to raise concerns and issues with management. We found relatives were clear about the process for raising concerns and were confident that they would be listened to. Staff received regular support and one to one sessions or supervision to discuss areas of development. Serenity House has an 18-year history of providing services to women living in recovery from past addictions to drugs and alcohol. The program serves a broad cross-section of the community, including those that have a long history of homelessness.p> People in the residential setting had access to a range of activities including participating in leisure pursuits in the local community. Right support, right care, right culture is the guidance CQC follows to make assessments and judgements about services providing support to people with a learning disability and/or autistic people. Prior to this visit we made a telephone call to inform the provider that we would be inspecting the service the next day. The reason we announced our visit is because people who use the service lead active lives and we wanted to make sure we would be able to meet one or both of them. During this visit we spoke with one of the two people using the service, the provider and a member of staff.

The optimal length of stay for a resident is 12 months although some may stay shorter or longer. Our residents will work and pay rent while establishing a recovery program in the Loudoun County self-help community. People were supported to take their medicines safely when required from suitably trained staff. Medication administration records (MAR) confirmed people had received their medicines as prescribed. We looked at infection prevention and control measures under the Safe key question. We look at this in all care home inspections even if no concerns or risks have been identified. This is to provide assurance that the service can respond to COVID-19 and other infection outbreaks effectively.People who used the service told us that staff respected their choices and that they were supported and enabled to do things independently. They confirmed that they were getting the support they needed and told us how they took part in the ongoing assessment and review of their needs and goals. They said they were involved in the recruitment and selection of staff and that staff had the right skills to support them. They told us about how they were encouraged to take part in the daily running of the service. Rating at last inspection: Requires Improvement (Report Published). At our previous comprehensive inspection in October 2017 the service was rated overall requires improvement. We found a breach of Regulation 17 HSCA 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2010. People were supported to take planned risks to promote their independence and staff were provided with appropriate information on which to base decisions. Staff we spoke with demonstrated a clear understanding of people's support and risk management plans. The provider had taken steps to provide care in an environment that was suitably designed and adequately maintained. People received their medicines as prescribed. However not all medicines were stored safely. The provider took action following our inspection visit to ensure medicines that needed to be refrigerated were stored securely.
