Recently she has discovered Lula Ladybird (a maths and spatial awareness game) and Secret Agent U which is a game for slightly older children to build basic computer literacy skills with some very basic software, hardware and networking concepts (I admit it, I was won over by the geekiness). Disclosure: We were sent a LeapPad 3 to review as part of our LeapFrog ambassadorship and for the purpose of this post. It comes with several apps pre-loaded but this includes basic features such as a calendar, clock, notepad and calculator. We reviewed the LeapPad Ultra last year which everyone loves, but it does cause a lot of arguments over who gets to play next so the LeapPad 3 has been a very welcome addition.

LeapPad3 features LeapFrog’s powerful new quad-core chip and a sleek and beautiful design, for fast-action fun kids love. The LeapPad itself is quite solid and the build quality is excellent and has survived some small drops and knocks. Choose from hundreds of fun learning games, eBooks, apps, videos, music and more—designed by learning experts, just for children! There are hundreds of reading, writing and maths games available and it is a nice thought that your child is learning alongside being entertained. This tablet is aimed at three to nine year olds but I think Jake (6-years-old) is the perfect age for it.Designed to be the perfect first tablet experience, I was concerned how L would get on with the LeapPad3.

Your child cannot access anything inappropriate, you don’t have to worry about setting filters or them stumbling upon anything dodgy. Now, the brand has not only updated the LeapPad several times to a tablet that’s almost unrecognisable from its early days, but added products including the Tag and LeapReader reading systems and cuddly learning toy My Pal Scout. First you will need to set up the Parent Account to have control of the unit followed by the child account.I also loved the idea of having a handheld learning device that he could travel with because we travel a lot. The game encouraged him to use problem-solving skills to help Doc treat toy patients and learn health lessons. However, this tablet is also incredibly robust, featuring a shock-absorbing frame and a protective screen.

With the peer-to-peer feature your child can play games or ‘chat’ with another child who has a wifi-supported LeapPad device but they must be in the same room. It does seem quite small and I particularly noticed when my son was playing on a Jake the Pirates game how teeny the characters looked. Personally, this isn’t something I wanted my children to use, so it is another reason why I opted to disable wifi via the parental controls settings.

My initial reaction when I saw the new Leappad 3 was "wowzers, that screen is tiny" but actually, at 5 inches (diagonally) it isn't any smaller than the screen on the Leappad2 - it just seems a WHOLE lot smaller than the 7 inch screen on the Leappad Ultra and Ultra XDi. We are a Leap Frog family, owning many of their products – so I was excited to get our hands on the new LeapPad 3.

I'm loving the idea of being able to 'tweak' settings on the Leappad to encourage your child to practice specific skills (although we don't currently own any games that support this). Once done with the reset, please register the device with your own LeapFrog parent account and create your new parent lock code. A good-quality, durable kids’ tablet that will provide hours of entertainment and is particularly useful for travelling. Everyone loves decorating their photos with funny masks and accessories, my 4 year old’s favourite feature is shaking her picture so it all gets jumbled up. It’s actually been great for helping my 6 year old with her reading, as there are lots of different messages you can send.To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Although you can use your finger to play games, it doesn’t have the fluidity of an iPad or adult tablet.
