The obvious (and simple) truths about life and circumstances are presented in a very amusing manner, sandwiched between what I felt to be inexperienced conjecture of the author. One could certainly empathize with everything stated here, and agree to most of it, but that's pretty much it: I couldn't find the self-help part (if there was any).

Throughout, the author continually slaps readers sharply across the face, using blunt, funny, and deceptively offhand language when expanding on his key principle: "Not giving a fuck does not mean being indifferent; it means being comfortable with being different…. Everyone and their TV commercial wants you to believe that the key to a good life is a nicer job, or a more rugged car, or a prettier girlfriend, or a hot tub with an inflatable pool for the kids. Based on the title, I was pretty stoked for this, and the introductory essay explaining the author's Not Giving a F*ck theory made a lot of sense to me and made me really happy. While Manson pats himself on the back for this gem, I can't help but think of Emerson, “Its the not the Destination, It's the journey.The unapologetic and in-your-face Mark Manson is here to help you find real happiness, as opposed to pretending to be happy; to focus on the what you should care about, instead of what you need to stop caring about. What Manson really does is steal some ideas from Buddhism and works hard to make himself look like a wise philosopher, and old soul. Starting from the first chapter, I had the vague feeling that I had dived into a Gladwell 'self-help' book. He candidly shares his own struggles and failures, making it easy for readers to connect with his message.

I didn’t actually know it was a self-help book per se, only that the title was eye-catching and something that resonated with me. Manson’s] book always just takes me back one or two steps and renews my perspective on situations because I’m a hyper focused individual when I get onto goals and tasks and things that I want to deliver. The Subtle Art is all about coming to terms with all of the inevitable unimportant imperfections in life and then choosing to not give a f*ck about them. I had to get past my disdain for potty-mouth-as-marketing-tool to open The Subtle Art…and I'm glad I did…Manson devotes a lot of time to explaining what a jerk he was while growing up, and how his screw-ups ultimately compelled him to be a better person—which made him a happier person.The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck took the world by storm, selling almost 2 million copies in its first year alone. I don’t know if this is because I read it on my Kindle but a few mind maps or visuals to visualise the concept of values and problems etc.
